AK71 bought healthy lunch!

Friday, June 7, 2013

Yes, I didn't just have a healthy lunch, I "bought" a healthy lunch.

For those who say I am not helping the economy by bringing my own food to work everyday, today, I did a good thing for the economy! I bought lunch from the canteen!

Brown rice with a big piece of tofu and lots of green chilli.

Brown rice is a good source of vitamin B. It is high in fibre and has low glycaemic index.  Tofu is a good source of protein without the cholesterol. Green chilli is good because it is, er, free!

Cost: $2.20

Hi AK,

Brown rice and tau kwa for $2.20? That's profiteering!

Lucky you put lots of green chilli to 'make back' a bit. LOL~

Hi Endrene,

I don't cook much but I help with the grocery shopping. Brown rice is a lot more expensive than white rice. A big piece of dao ghua (salted) raw is 70c a piece from the market. Of course, hawkers charge for Styrofoam boxes too.

Hard life. :(

Hi AK,

Very expensive, at fu Lu shou u get the above with 2 veg dish throw in for just $3.

Anyway, a good place for dry goods is at fu Lu shou....and if you fancy korea stuff , Shine supermarket at Burlington Square.

Saving $$$ is to improve your culinary skills so that u get restaurant standard food at home..

Hi Garfield,

I am actually flattered. It has been a while since I was told my lunch was expensive!

I enjoy cooking but I don't enjoy the cleaning up. I used to make killer pork chops and fried wantons, for examples. These days, I will only deal with boiling. ;p

Fu Lu Shou is a nightmare to visit and Burlington Square brings back bad memories. See: Pillarised

Yes, I am a problem child. -.-"

Ak,

Haha, I read with great amusement of how u got your car pillarised. I don't have an issue with tt cos i travel with my 2 Kars and Ezlink card.

U make oily food tt is why cleaning up is a nightmare. I usu. end up making food when I think the std drops or nice things like macaroons r simply too exp. ...it does help where my mum and aunt love cooking too.

Hi Garfield,

If my misfortune brought a smile to your face, I guess it wasn't all bad. I did buy a new car shortly after that incident. So, it could be a blessing in disguise too. ;p

Hi AK,

Killer pork chops sounds scary... *Shiver*Shiver* :P

Reading your carpark incident makes me feel a lot less guilty cos I have done that a number of times. So male drivers are not perfect too! Haha.

Definitely empathise with the heartache of denting the car. Maybe you would have felt better if it were the CX-7 you won instead of the Mazda 6 you bought? I parked next to a CX-7 yesterday for the first time and my little Opel looked like a dwarf! CX-7 is quite a nice and sturdy looking car. :)

How's the hunting of the Mazda 3 for your pal? COE just went up. Makes it a bit tougher to negotiate for a better deal, I would guess.

Hi Endrene,

Ya, I call them "Chucky Chops". ;p

The one lesson to take away from "pillarising" my car is that I shouldn't drive when I am mentally troubled. To be fair to Burlington Square, I drove even bigger cars in their car park before without incident. That day, I was just too pre-occupied mentally. Having said this, it is a terribly designed car park.

The CX-7 is a nice car but look at the size of those wheels! I can imagine consumption is a killer and so is the road tax. Anyway, I sold it for $70+K without COE, just a few K less than the $80K I paid for my Mazda6 a couple of years before that. :)

As for my friend, I have planted the idea of a Picanto in his mind. I am a darn good salesman, if I do say so myself. Now, he is undecided. ;p

Hi AK,

I totally agree! More than driving skills, driving requires judgement and decision making. So presence of mind is really important.

Hmmm...then perhaps I can say I'm actually not a lousy driver, just absent minded? Thanks for helping me come up with such a legitimate excuse! :P

Oh, whoever bought the CX-7 from you had a pretty good deal, I guess. I also think that the sheer size of the car would make it an amazing guzzler. Would have been an expensive pet to maintain. :)

I certainly won't doubt your salesmanship, knowing what you do for a living. :) For a 7-8 year old car, I'm not sure if a Picanto is a good idea. Reliability aside, spares parts might be an issue too cos Korean cars weren't that many back then. I remember that mechanic uncle telling me that Hyundai Getz is another model I shouldn't consider. Not sure if Picanto would be in the same category though. Might be good to check out the forum? :)

Oh, btw, I dropped you an email yesterday. Just to share with you my little hut in D8 which I went down to check out. No reply warranted, but I'm just wondering if you got it.

Hi Endrene,

Well, the CX-7 back then was going for just slightly more than $100k including COE. So, I thought $71k without COE was good enough for me but it was definitely a bargain for the guy who bought it as he got the COE for only $13k, iirc. The COE for many months was hovering at about $20k back then. Things were less crazy just a few years ago, I know.

As for my friend, he chewed on my idea to get a Picanto and he spat it out. I have failed. :(

Well, if you are right, then, it could be a blessing that it happened. The Picanto is really a smaller Getz.

Anyway, it will probably be a Mazda2 or a Mazda3. Tomorrow, he will decide.

I will check my email later today. Thanks. :)

Hi Endrene,

I didn't get the email. You wanna cut and paste as a reply to one of my emails to you? You said that method worked before. Sorry about this. :(
