Accused of fraud and denied payment.

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

After almost a year and 20c per click, my blog accumulated about $170 of earnings from ads put up by Nuffnang.

After waiting for two months for payment, they now tell me my blog is confirmed to be involved in click fraud. See letter:

If they suspected that my blog was guilty of click fraud, why did they bother to even tell me that a client was interested in running an ad campaign in my blog recently? I was even asked to send details of my blog's traffic to them.

$170. I don't believe how much money I tried to obtain through click fraud. I am dumbfounded.

Anyway, rather than running the risk of being accused of click fraud again, I have removed all of Nuffnang's ad spaces from my blog.

Hi AK,

A wise move to prevent "Long nights, more dreams" and in this case nightmares!

It makes your site more focused now too! Without those cutesy ads here and there

Hi Solidcore,

We can always look at the bright side of things. :)

It is a pity because I have been with Nuffnang for years. It is not as advanced as Google AdSense, its ads are not contextual and 20c per click is peanuts but still good pocket money as I cash out only once a year.

Anyway, like you said, could be a good thing. :)

Hi AK,

I believe it is a gain for your readers? Hahaha

Lesser ads on the blog, viewers just focus on content. Your blog becomes more Zen, Lol

You can just work harder in the stock market to make up the loss from ads. :D

Have been hearing quite a fair bit of negative feedback from my friends using Nuffnang! Example, putting a "charity" ads (no payment for clicks). Lol

Think Nuffnang 小看你, $170 not even enough for you to get a lot of Croesus . Haha

Cheers!

Hi Solace,

Well, I am quite philosophical about it but still rather disappointed with Nuffnang. I guess this is how it is. :)

I am a lazy guy and I don't think I will work any harder in the stock market. Hey, I am supposed to get passive income. Work harder? -.-"

Hi boonchin,

To be fair, Nuffnang started out very strong a few years ago and I told many people how good they were with payments but starting from 2012, some told me that they were not paying promptly and I felt it too. Then, a fellow blogger got a letter just like this one.

Well, frankly, I do not think that there is any truth in this letter. The accusation hurts, not the loss of $170.

Hi AK,

I ditched nuffnang before they do it to me. I had two to three bad experiences in getting payments. The last straw for me is in around Dec when they removed my Glitterati status. I cut them off and cashed out the payment. Maybe after 60 days, I can tell you whether they will pay me or not ultimately.

Good riddance I say. Now my blog is free of other party ads.

just a BS accusation to get out of paying.... lots of ass holes arounds

Hi AK,

I agree that Nuffnang started out strongly. While it is never going to match Google, I hosted their ads in support of local entrepreneurship. However, it is disappointing that their accusation is "one directional".

I was also recently contacted that a "client" is interested in advertising in my site. I shall wait and see.

Wishing you a Happy Lunar New Year!

Nuffnang is the pitts - rubbish company - see how long they stay in business.

Why not have direct ads instead and get rid of the middle man.

It's not that troublesome admin wise.

Hi LP,

Yes, I remember how you warned me the year before last on how Nuffnang was dragging their feet on payments.

I don't see any reason for them to remove your Gliterrati status since you do not have any other Asian ad agency serving ads in your blog.

Well, to be fair, they didn't ditch me. They just didn't pay me and issued a warning that they might ditch me in future. ;p

To me, if someone tells me I am no longer a trusted partner, I would just leave. Why stay? It is not as if I need this.

Hi unknown,

I share your sentiments. :)

AK71 said...

Hi Derek,

Indeed so. When a friend who received the same letter from them asked them to share the evidence with him, he didn't get a positive response. This was in Feb 2012.

I agree with you on supporting local entrepreneurship but we should do so only as long as we are appreciated. :)

Hi imdna,

I know some bloggers like Xiaxue are so successful that they have a manager to help them with ads but I don't think I make enough from my blog to pay even a cleaning lady to come in once a week. -.-"

Do you know of anyone who might want to freelance as an ad sales manager for my blog? He gets paid only if he gets ads for me. 50/50. Sounds good? ;p

Not too wise of them for that $170. They just suffered negative publicity on a high traffic site. Haha.

AK71 said...

Hi Rusty,

Well, traffic here is not as high as Xiaxue's blog's, for sure. Xiaxue is one of their stars. :)

Anyway, another friend just told me that it is possibly a good thing since Nuffnang does not seem to have made any progress in serving more finance related ads in the 4 years I have been with them.

Hi Cory,

4 years of relationship. It is a pity.

Common with many online businesses. I once unsubscribed from a certain online site, and yet they have been sending me emails for subscription fees. Too many dodgy businesses on cyberspace!

AK,

I just received email from them. kena the same thing as u. what's wrong with nuffnang.

AK71 said...

Hi mml,

I suspect that they are having money problems which was what the blog master of Bully the Bear surmised. He was the first person to warn me that something was amiss more than a year ago.

As Glitterati members, if we cashed out before the end of the month, we should get paid no later than the end of the following month but it did not happen. They were late. Now, they have decided to deny payment altogether.

hi AK,

thks. time to move on.
have removed the nuffnang in my blog.

AK71 said...

Hi mml,

I just got a cheque from them today for $140+. This is lesser than the $170+ which was supposed to be paid to me but it is better than nothing, I guess.

Money Law said...

hi AK,

mine is 80+. duno how much will i get?

may put up the nuffnang again after i get the cheque.

haix.

thks

AK71 said...

Hi mml,

I hope you get a cheque in payment too although I won't be reinstating the ad spaces unless requested to by Nuffnang with good reasons. :)

Hi mml,

Good! Then, I wonder why they sent you that email on click fraud in the first place...
