Saturday morning with Victor Chng: Level Up!

Thursday, March 6, 2014

My blog about how AK feels like Bilbo Baggins might still be quite fresh on your mind. In case you are wondering, I am still meditating on the issue and wondering what kind of disguise would work.

While I am still meditating, the boat has to leave without me. Well, it can't be helped, I guess. There is always another boat and, maybe, by then, I would have made up my mind.

However, quite honestly, I didn't know about this particular boat until 2 nights ago.

Well, at least, I can help spread the word about this event which is happening very soon:

Venue:

SPH News Centre, Auditorium
1000 Toa Payoh North
Singapore 318994

Date:

15 March 2014, Saturday

Time:   9:00am - 1:00pm
(Registration starts 8:30am.)

It is just slightly more than a week away. Rather short notice.

Hear from one of the brilliant analytical minds I mentioned somewhere in my blog's comments section before. I spoke with him at length again recently and I was really impressed. His name is Victor Chng and he will share with you his insights on what is currently unloved by Mr. Market.

Someone else whom you might learn something from is Chris Chan. I learned quite a few things from him about insurance in his presentations before. Get the right kind of insurance at the right prices. Although I have taken his advice to heart, I have yet to defrag my insurance policies. Maybe, one day, I will have a chat with Chris.

I was told that there are only about 200 tickets available for sale. So, if you want to attend the event, you have to be fast.

Oh, I haven't told you the ticket prices:

$9.00 for one ticket.

Bring a friend and you pay only $15.00 for two tickets.

Here is the link: Level Up Life Series.

If you are a student, just show up at the venue and flash your matriculation card. Why? You get to go in for free! This is the promise my friends made. So, go early and get your free seat!

Remember, go with an open mind and I think there will be plenty of useful knowledge to take away.

If you do not think you need more guidance or the services offered, don't sign up for anything. This is the same thing I said about attending Value Investing Summit in 2013 and 2014.

However, if you feel that you need more guidance or if you feel that you do not have time to do due diligence, then, consider signing up with Victor for his discussion forum!

The forum will not cost you thousands of dollars. It will not cost you one thousand dollars. It will not even cost you half a thousand dollars.

Victor has put a lot of thought into the design of the discussion forum and I believe that it will be truly value for money.

My friends are taking baby steps to fulfil their vision of promoting financial literacy without charging high prices and to channel a percentage of their earnings towards charitable causes at the same time.

If you have the time and a few dollars to spare, spend a Saturday morning with Victor Chng and see for yourself this young man in action (and you will know if AK had postage stamps over his eyes).

Agree, $9 is not unreasonable! As some people tend to argue, participants will try to learn more if they pay for a course :)

and please don't worry about you not willing to sacrifice your privacy by not participating as a speaker. You are already doing ppl alot of service by writing this excellent blog regularly! I am sure your readers in turn will try to share your views to their own family and friends hence achieving a multiplying effect.

Hi aceirus,

Thanks for the bracing comment. :)

$9 is really to help to cover the cost of organising the event. I believe that the audience will get more than $9 worth of information, if I know my friends.

Thanks also for understanding my desire to stay anonymous. I am very happy that you have found my blog useful. Indeed, please spread the word on financial freedom. :)

Hi Ak,

Just speaking my mind here, hope u dun mind.

If that particular seminar is the type of seminar, u are contemplating of going. I must say it is very different from what I have in mind.

I believe they are still speaking to converts. I believe at $9, the underlying motive is not money, and they are using a very sexy headline to attract the crowd.

I also believe for $9, it is going to be highly value for money. But with such a heading, who gets attracted? I do understand as a teacher, u need to capture the attention of pupils frat before u can teach, but I am not sure are they teaching the right "class"?

Is there a target group in this financial literacy vision? Or the target group is just reach out as many as possible?

I emphasis I am not passing any judgement here, I am just thinking aloud, have no intention to putting down such non-profits driven efforts, we need more such groups.

By some profiling might be a good idea, a by invite-type of seminar, partnering with credit-counsel organization, or perhaps university pupils directly could make a bigger impact perhaps?

I guess I am just cyclical here, isn't the lure of fat super profits the roots of investment problems? How are they going to effectively going to overturn the tone of the seminar to that of careful, constant investing?

On a side-note, the industry they are talking about seem like the shipping industry. The graph bores it up, the 2007 - 2008 super peak and fat years, follow by the collapse of 2009 subprime crisis as credit freeze, after which there is a false dawn in 2010.

Of course, the details is the important part. Which shipping ? Building/ catering/ bulk/ container/ local-NOL or overseas.

Hi Mike,

Two friends on the team have strong internet marketing background and it is just the way they write. Honestly, I share this concern of yours and mentioned this to one of them last night.

Very often, it is not what we write but how we write it.

However, I will tell anyone, who asks me for my opinion, these bunch of young people have their hearts in the right place. :)

I do not know how much influence I might have in their operations in future but I will definitely make my ideas heard. Whether the ideas are accepted and acted upon is not for me to say. :)

As you have rightly pointed out, the intentions are good but how to achieve the vision? Perhaps, it needs more thought.

Personally, I would like for them to reach out to the non-converts and I have mentioned this at my first meeting with them a couple of weeks ago.

However, reaching out to as many as possible, converts or not, is not a bad thing in the meantime.

For sure, if they can do more good for the community at large, I will support their efforts.

I did tell them that they cannot price their events too lowly as their company should be self sustaining and the 5 of them need to be fairly compensated. They are not robots.

Don't become ASSI. My blog is definitely not self sustaining. LOL. However, my blog is a hobby and not a livelihood.

You have a stake in YZJ and are attuned to the shipping industry. No escaping your eyes. Well, I do not know the details of Victor's presentation but, yes, it will be about shipping. No spoiler here. ;)

I think he will share his analysis on the bulk shipping company in Malaysia.

Hi RayNg,

A definite possibility. ;)

Hi AK,

So did you sign up for the $499 shipping course?

I am quite new to investment and trading. Wonder if this is a reasonable price to pay for the course.

Aside to RayNg, how do you know he is going to talk about bulk shipping? LOL.

AK71 said...

Hi Happy_heart,

Victor and I spoke about the bulk shipping sector on a couple of occasions before and I am impressed with his analysis. :)

I have not been to one of his discussion forums before. The next one is happening on a Saturday morning again and I won't be able to make it. :(

Personally, I believe that $499 is not expensive since people out there charge anything from $3,000 to $4,000 for investment courses and might not deliver the level of substance that Victor delivers.

A guest blogger attended the talk on Saturday and he will be blogging about it in ASSI soon.
