InvestX Congress 2014: AK's first public appearance.

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

By now, many probably know that I have agreed to be a guest speaker at a one day investment education event that is happening on 14 June 2014 (Saturday) in Suntec City. It is an event that is organised by a bunch of friends who formed a company called "The Fifth Person".

These same friends organised an event which I blogged about earlier and a guest blogger, Solace, did a review of it. I think it is safe to say that Solace was impressed. Well, the event on 14 June 2014 will likely be more impressive.

I know my friends managed to get a couple of industry professionals to be guest speakers as well. So, apart from what you see in the marketing material, you are likely to get some bonuses on the day of the event.

Price of ticket? $99 per person. However, early birds pay $79 per person. This special offer is good till 21 May 2014.

Now, I know that probably quite a few readers will want to go to the event because I am going to be a guest speaker. If that is your motivation for going to the event, please consider not going. Why? The reason is quite simple.

I won't be saying anything you have not heard me said in my blog for the last 4 and a half years. I would be surprised if you have not grown tired of me repeating myself once every so often.

I will, however, tell you why you should go to the event.

You should go to the event to listen to Victor Chng and Rusmin Ang, two brilliant young minds. Those stocks listed in the marketing material are not just stocks that they picked out to show how well we could have done on hindsight. They actually invested in those stocks after doing thorough due diligence earlier on and if you were to listen to them, you would be impressed and, more importantly, enlightened.

You should go to the event to listen to industry professionals. I cannot reveal too much at this point but I think it will be a fun and rewarding experience no matter your level of accomplishment as an investor. Ok, to be fair, I feel that if you are already a very accomplished investor, you might find the event dull at times (mostly during AK's segment).

Finally, you want to go to the event to help raise funds for charity. Yes, a meaningful percentage of the proceeds will go to a charity. My friends know that I have a soft spot for Singapore Children Society and I hope that the donation will go to the charity of my choice. (I am being sneaky because the recipient has not been decided yet. Hey, guys! I win!)

I believe that this is going to be a value for money event. So, if you have the time and $79 to spare, block the 14th of June and reserve your place. It is not a big event like the one I blogged about earlier this year in Kallang Theatre which sat 1,200 people. For this event, there are only 400 seats available. So, if you decide that you want to attend, don't wait too long to get your ticket.

Get your early bird ticket at: InvestX Congress 2014.

Now, I will have to decide on a disguise.

P.S. Supporting this event could indirectly raise the profile of Suntec City Convention Centre which could benefit Suntec REIT. This could benefit the writer who has been a Suntec REIT shareholder since 2009. OK, now, you have been warned.

Wow we could finally see you in real person and know who you are. Will you by any chance introducing your blog to the wider mass?

AK71 said...

Hi B,

Eh, I will be going in disguise. I have not decided if it should be Spiderman, Batman or the atas Phantom of the Opera. ;p

I won't be deliberately promoting my blog but I will be drawing upon my blog for resources, I guess. :)

I am hoping to see your face ! come-on ... simi disguise lah. Siao man.
Better don't do that. And maybe you got chance to be up by GIRLS. :P

AK71 said...

Hi Cory,

It was a condition I gave to the organisers. I must be in disguise or else I won't go as a guest speaker. They agreed. :)

Wow our AK finally go 'public' liao, feel abit like IPO haha!

I am interested but I am out of the country and have to miss it. Are there alternative ways of access to the contents of this event?

SGYI said...

Hi AK,

Wow wow, finally you decided on the correct path to take. I got a feeling the tickets will be sold out real soon.

AK71 said...

Hi CP,

OMG! IPO? What a scary idea! AK doesn't want to be an IPO. -.-"

It is OK to miss the event. I don't think I will be saying anything new. As for Victor and Rusmin, I am sure they will have other events after this. :)

You can wear ponytail type long white hair, large and black sun glass, 20cm high shoes and thick fur coats.

But ... please hor ... no superman, aquaman, spiderman etc hor ... It will be like Clown. malu. haha :)

AK71 said...

Hi SGYI,

Is this the correct path to take? I still don't know, really. I guess if I don't try, I won't know. :)

AK71 said...

Hi Cory,

I will take the cheapest and most effective disguise available. TBA.

;p

Ray said...

just buy a cheap $1 mask - those cardboard type with a cheap rubber band tied to two little holes. Cost efficient, just your style. :D
Besides, alot of patterns you can choose from, got power ranger, tiger, minion... :D

AK....just to check with u , is Victor Chng and Rusmin Ang students of ken Chee ?? stock list seem similar to Ken Chee list ....Hope I don't attend 2 similar lecture by same family.....tks

Sam

AK71 said...

Hi Ray,

$1? That is too expensive!

I think I will use the 3M N95 mask issued to me during the last haze, a pair of 20 year old sun-glasses and a hat which I have at home. No need to spend money on a disguise liao. ;p

AK71 said...

Hi Sam,

Good questions. I only know that Rusmin and Victor were working for 8I before. I don't know if they were Ken's students.

However, I do know that the event will have a few other speakers and not just the two of them. :)

kenji tay said...

Hi Sam,

Just to clarify, Victor and Rusmin were MIP grads (3 years or more ago). They are however, no longer linked to 8I.

I think its only fair that you talk and learn more about them to find out how much more sophisticated they are now in their level of expertise as compared to 3 years ago.

As for the "list" you were talking about, nope, the list are different but what's really important are the thought processes and insights to making certain investing decisions (Which, after you understand, can be easily duplicated)

I think that's something more useful for everyone. And dun worry, it wun be about the usual Vicom, SPH, Breadtalk etc. =P

So, Sam, if you are free, do come join us at InvestX Congress. It's purely a content based event. And because there's no 'courses' to sign up, we wun leave you hanging for answers =P

Hope to see you then ^^

Best,
Kenji Tay

In N95 Mask how to talk ? You will be mumbling. Just use a normal coughing mask.

AK71 said...

Hi Cory,

Will try both and see which one is better. I also want to see which one is more comfortable. :)

wx said...

Hi AK, this event got free admission for students?

AK71 said...

Hi Wei Xiong,

You went for the earlier event I blogged about and got in for free, did you? Haha.. Good. :D

For this event, I don't think there is free admission because it is way too costly to organise but you can send them an email to find out. :)

KC said...

Seriously? Disguise? Optically may not go down well with audience.

AK71 said...

Hi E H,

Haha... Must be upfront with readers. I don't want to disappoint. ;p

Solace said...

Hey AK and Kenji,

I am sure this will be a very informative and high value program which will benefit the audience.

I wish a great turn out and a great success to your event as well as to your public appearance, AK. I am sure it will be a very positive experience.

I won't be able to turn out for this event, but i am looking forward if AK is doing one haha.

AK71 said...

Hi Solace,

And I was thinking of asking you to do a review of the event as a guest blogger too. :(

A solo AK event? Aiyoh, that would be way too stressful for me. I doubt I have the stamina. -.-"

AK,

Disguise as SUPERMAN!!! I sure go see haha

AK71 said...

Hi Matthew,

Superman is out! He doesn't wear a mask. So, that is a poor disguise. -.-"

ivan said...

Hi AK,

I will be there to support :)

Kind Regards,
ivan

AK71 said...

Hi Ivan,

I hope you enjoy the event. Thank you very much. :)

Hi AK,

I've signed up the event yesterday. So far I only received email from paypal as receipt. I'm wondering how can I able to get the ticket? Will the organiser send an email for it?

AK71 said...

Hi pmmw,

I have forwarded your comment to the organiser and asked that they reply to your comment here. :)

kenji tay said...

Hi pmmw,

Thank you for supporting the event.

Actually, after the payment, it's suppose to redirect to the details page. But somehow, PayPal is not doing that.

We do apologise for the little glitch. We will be consolidating all the details from PayPal and will send everyone who bought an email individually.

You should receive it by next week. And say... worse case scenario, the email bounce or landed in.junk, again... Not to fret, just come on the actual day, we will have everything prepare for you from the PayPal records. :)

Again, thank you for supporting the event. :)

Enjoy reading your posts. It would help if you can compare your performance returns with the STI total returns(dividend+appreciation) for the various periods in question. This will enable us to see the 'alpha' of your analysis.

Hi farook,

Aiyoh, I think you have mistaken me for some pseudo fund manager who knows stuff like benchmarking and "alpha". I am just your regular guy next door who does a bit of investing to get some extra income. -.-"
