Secret to losing weight and gaining wealth.

Saturday, May 24, 2014

A friend once told me that to lose weight, simply eat less and exercise more. Input less, output more.

We can draw a parallel in wealth building: to become poorer, make less and spend more. Input less, output more.

So, to become richer, what do we do? Make more and spend less, of course. Input more, output less.

No matter how much we make, if we spend all of it or, heavens forbid, more than we make, we will always be poor. Easy enough to understand but why is it so hard for so many to remember?

P.S. AK decided to try harder to lose weight. Last night, AK went for a long walk. Took 2 hours. Drank 1.5 litres of water in that time to replenish lost moisture. Aiyoh, my aching body.

AK,

A bit of ache and pain feels good right?

Next time try hot wax and leather whip ;)

Too fast?

Exactly!

Next time walk 45 minutes first and slowly build up from there ;)

Typical mancho man you. LOL!

Oh! You trying to slim down like those actresses before the Oscars?

May I suggest cummerband?

Hi SMOL,

I thought you were going to suggest a corset. Now, suck in the tummy! -.-"

I have been gaining weight. Growing older. Metabolic rate dropping. My love for ice cream and chocolates plus my sedentary lifestyle are not helping. Sigh.

Hi AK 71,
It's not so hard to remember but for most of us (me too) it is, "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak".
On the hand, why are we saving so much? For whom? What if "Tomorrow Never Comes?"
If we can afford a "BMW" why only a VIOS?
If only i know when then i go for the "BMW", isn't it?

Jog, swim and walk for good health!

Hi Temperament,

As I grow older, I become less tight fisted with money because I also wonder what if tomorrow never comes. LOL.

However, I also know that I can be less tight fisted now because I was more tight fisted before. ;p

So, how? -.-"

Ok ah...life is abt balance mah. :)

Great effort to gain health! Abt 3 or 4 years ago I started exercising by alighing 1 mrt stop earlier and walking 45mins back home.

Btw, u can also try to reduce the package foods you eat. Eat fresh! ;)

Well put!
Without delay gratification in the past, how can you afford a BMW now? The problem is still the same. Do i really need a BMW now or still a Vios will do? Or just the masses "BMW" is O. K. too. The principles of money management will never change even if i change.
Cheers!

Hi PIB, EH and pf,

All good advice. Thank you very much. I will give it my best shot! Gambatte! Fighting! And all that kind of stuff. ;)

Hi temperament,

Well, I do believe that we should cut ourselves some slack once in a while if we can afford to do so.

I remember reading about a middle aged fellow who decided to lead a healthy lifestyle and he transformed his life but still let himself have the occasional plate of char kway teow and chye tow kuey. It made him happy but he knew he should not over indulge. :)

So, I have my car. I have meals in restaurants sometimes. I go for annual holidays. I bought myself a vintage Rolex. I make regular donations to some charities I believe in. There is a bunch of other stuff that I do that makes me happy. It is about moderation, isn't it?

Would I buy a luxury car or a luxury apartment? Well, I will be honest and say I might if I had tons of money which, unfortunately, I don't. -.-"

Ha! Ha!
Tons of money eh?
Everyone of us will have our own definition, i am sure.
But i agree with you when we have reached our "tons of money", we may then splurge on a luxury car or a luxury apartment.
By the way what is your "dream car"?
Mine, a Honda Accord will do & a luxury pent house.

As you age, you should seriously look into investing in your health. Exercising (jog, cycle, swim, tennis etc.) regularly starting with baby steps.
I hate jogging, but over the years I have already develop a habit of jogging once a week. If I don't run I will feel uneasy to be honest. In the last six months I have increase from 5km to 7km and now 10km. Still I have yet to like jogging.
When my knee start to hurt, I pick up cycling :). Good way to stay healthy, and still eat my favourite food!

EY: Wah, that's a good start! Next time, walk faster so you can cover more 'road' within the same 2 hours. Better still, jog! Like that you will be able to join the marathon in no time!

AK: *jaw drop*

EY: Hmm...you can ride bicycle also right? Maybe start practicing swimming and very soon, you can take part in triathlon too. So exciting!!! Then hor, next thing, you go on a protein diet and do weight lifting. Not only can lose weight, you can gain muscle mass and maybe can win Man Hunt 2014/2015 also! Got prize money one leh! Good hor, good hor? *Rattles on and on*

AK: -.-" *Quietly takes off one shoe and aims at EY's mouth, attempting to shut her up*

EY: *puzzled look and feeling unappreciated* Giving you suggestions on how to lose more weight and make more money leh. But why you no get it?

:P

Hi Temperament,

My luxury dream car now? A Mercedes Benz C class. LOL. Quite a practical choice for dream car. ;)

A luxury home? A high floor condo unit. Freehold. Well located in RCR. $2 million will probably get only a 1,200 square feet unit or so. -.-"

Hi E H,

I had to google to see what you meant. Wah! It is a watch that went for US$1.1m! OMG! -.-"

AK71 said...

Hi Chris,

I used to jog 3 times a week. 5km minimum each time. I could finish 5km in 30 minutes too. Then, my knee problem came. So, no more jogging for many years.

The problem is that I enjoy jogging. It is also easier to do than swimming and cycling. Jogging is a convenient activity and I was addicted to it.

Anyway, I will have a pool and a gym just a lift ride away in future. So, I want to make a new start (minus jogging). :)

Hi EY,

Aiyoh. This makes me miss your first guest blog. For readers who are wondering what I am talking about, read this:

http://singaporeanstocksinvestor.blogspot.sg/2012/12/tea-with-ey-money-talk-money-laugh.html

Classic stuff. ;)

Anyway, I can't run or jog for long anymore. I tried to restart jogging a few years ago thinking that my knees had healed. The pain came back within 10 minutes. It stayed for weeks. :(

Walking is actually not too good for me either. Cannot do it too often. So, I will have to watch it. Climbing and cycling are better. Swimming is good but requires going for classes, I suspect.

I plan on taking the stairs instead of the lift from the car park to get back home in future. ;)

Hi AK,

Haha. I missed the 'me' then as well. These days, I'm less funny and free spirited than I used to be. Well, someday I'll find myself again. :)

Actually my comments was a poke to you lah.

You said "Easy enough to understand but why is it so hard for so many to remember?"

People do things/spend money for all sorts of reasons mah. Just like your goal of exercising is to lose weight (and look better) and maybe provide 'room' for your chocolate and ice cream indulgence. Not necessarily to live a healthy lifestyle.

As I get older, I also start embracing the idea of what if tomorrow never comes. I was a health junkie after I recovered from bulimia and then one day I had an epiphany.

My 'favourite' food used to sliced fish beehoon with bitter gourd. Now I'm a bak chor mee and pigger trotters fan. Yum yum! Char kway teow and chye tao kuay? More chilli and an extra egg, pls! LOL~

Oh btw, I'm not discouraging you from exercising. I'm happy that you get started again. You lead the way, man! I have missed my exercise for more than a month oredi. :P

I noted some comments advocating walking/climbing the last mile/km home. Note the wear and tear if wearing office shoes/heels.

Hi Endrene,

I went to the gym earlier today! I did some crunches and went on the cross trainer for 30 minutes. Burnt 400 calories!

Then, I met a friend for char siew ramen and probably put on 600 calories. -.-"

Now, I am back home and thinking of taking a nap... What a pig! Don't care. I happy can liao. ;)

Happy thoughts, Endrene. Gambatte!
