Make money at all costs or do the right thing at all costs?

Thursday, December 4, 2014

It has been almost 20 years since I lived rather high up in a building. Discovering a relatively good value for money deal for a high floor unit in a newly built high rise means I am once again closer to the clouds.

I took some photos of the skies this evening from my balcony as my mood turned contemplative. What do you think I saw in the skies?

When I looked at the skies, I am reminded of how small I am and how there are forces out there that make problems in our mundane lives more mundane.

To some of us, we might also feel that there are divine forces in the skies observing everything that we do. The heavens have eyes, as the Chinese saying goes.

It is good to be reminded that although money is important in modern day life, we should be careful to do the right things to make money.

君子爱财取之有道

Be righteous and make money in righteous ways.

I try to remember this always and that is also why there are certain events or programs I would not want to be a part of. Perhaps, ignorance is bliss but I rather be aware and do the right things. I can't live without air conditioning and hell is way too warm for me.

Hi SMOL,

Ah, you are always so kind to my bleeding heart. Thank you. ;)

Hi pf,

Ah, you have mentioned a stock that I bought at 50+c but sold way too soon. Oh, my bleeding heart! ;p

I like the investment theme behind RMG but I think the valuation is rather rich now.

AK, any thoughts on the soon-to-be listed Keppel DC Reit?

Hi talesteller,

I might take a look at it if its market price should decline below its IPO price meaningfully. ;p

Jacky lyrics which I like a lot. Same effect as how you feel.

山和大地本是微尘
何况是尘中的尘

《微尘》heard of it?

Just to share this... My broker asked me buy MAS during the MH incident. I refused, I think it's not the right thing to do. What goes around comes around

I'm at a struggle abt health care stocks. Coz i think there is moral hazard in this. Health care should be accessible to anyone and not be "tainted" with profit making/commercial driven motivations. Ultimately, there are only 2 ways to make money/increase shareholder value, increase profit and reduce costs. U know what i mean?

Hi Mike,

My command of the Chinese language is only so so. I listened to some popular Chinese songs during my days in NS and university. Then, it stopped. Work took over my life. -.-"

I will go and search Youtube for the song later. Thanks for letting me know. ;)

Hi Chris,

You remind me of someone who would not invest in companies involved in what he considers to be sinful trades such as tobacco manufacturing or running casinos. :)

Hi pf,

I quite understand. However, nothing is really free in this world. :)

The idea of free education and free healthcare is very appealing but the State will have to pay for these which means that taxpayers will have to pay for these, ultimately. I don't like the idea. ;p

I believe that everyone should have health insurance and I blog about this frequently. That is where Medishield Life comes in. It will ensure that everyone has affordable healthcare. ;)

Its not such black and white, AK. Even if health care is not free, it doesn't mean it needs to be all about profits.

Hi pf,

I know what you mean, of course. A pertinent question is then why are doctors so highly paid? ;)

Unfortunately, this is part of the capitalist system. Some services and goods are more highly valued than others.

If we were to extend this argument a bit, we can also ask the same about many other sectors in the economy. ;p

Yes, u r absolutely right. :)
