Saving time, money and my backside but lost face?

Monday, January 19, 2015

In the ongoing saga of the holey backside, I decided to improve the living conditions for my nether regions by addressing the drafty environment through a patch.

Very happy!

My sister has saved me time and money with her handiwork.

Thanks, sis!

To be quite honest, one of the things I dislike shopping for the most are pants.

Very troublesome.

So, when I find some that I like, I would usually buy at least 2 pairs and hope that they last many years.

A friend who saw my blog post on the hole in my backside couldn't resist giving me a call and he said (not in the exact words):

"OMG! You are the only person I know who actually wears out his clothes to the point of having holes in them! And you actually blog about them? Don't you think it is embarrassing?"

I am so sorry. I didn't know I am supposed to be embarrassed.

I feel so embarrassed now.

Thanks for taking the trouble to inform me.

Dont worry about it AK - same here or worse heheh.

My computer bags / backpacks are patched and re-patched until "cannot-save".

As for outdoor clothes that becomes "unsightly" are delegated for indoor / home usage, stuffing by punching bag, rain-water harvesting filter or floor rags :P

Who cares what others think - i answer to God, love ones' and self only.

To quote Will Smith - “We spend money that we do not have, on things we do not need, to impress people who do not care.”

Hi MK,

Thanks for the encouragement. :D

Hole there is okay, at most money falls out from there and you lose a tangible asset.

If the hole is at the center of the buttock, that's harder. The intangible asset and face will be gone and tarnished.

Hahahaha

Hi B,

If it was a hole in the back pocket, I wouldn't have bothered to patch lor.

The hole is in the seat of the pants just below the back pocket. Can really feel breezy de. -.-"

Firstly, lovely needle work.

I used to tape duct tape to a hole in my handbag. The department secretary laughed at me until tears rolled down her face.

I think it is fine to wear clothes til they cant be worn anymore.

Hi Rebel,

Thanks for the compliment. I will let my sis know. :D

Hi AK,

Don't worry lah, many frugal pple (myself included) do this also. But sometimes, my wife cannot tahan and she threw the pants away.

In fact, for my casual clothes, i seldom buy, i get 2nd hand one from my brother in law. Actually, the clothes are in quite good condition. Still can wear for another 5 years.. i think.

Everyone's priority is different.
I have colleague from middle income family who stay big house (S$2.3m), just change 2nd hand Merz S-Class recently, wear rolex, go for exotic holidays etc.
I guess he and his wife will have to work till 55 or above to pay off the debts.

For me, freedom is more important. Having a choice whether to stop work and
spend time with my family is more important. Therefore, i have chosen to lead a simple life with very minimal debt.

I wear swan brand white t-shirts like a pork butcher on weekends. They are very comfortable. My usual dress down uniform. :-p

Hi jfree,

I don't usually have a lot of money in my wallet. I remember going out with some friends once and we had to split the bill for dinner. One of them was incredulous when he saw that I had less than $20 in my wallet.

"Aiyoh! How come you so poor thing one?"

He was quite loud too. So pai she. :(

Since then, I tried to carry more cash on me.

Hi EW,

I know what you mean. You are just like Charlie Munger.

"I had a considerable passion to get rich, not because I wanted Ferraris – I wanted the independence. I desperately wanted it."

We are after financial independence. :)

Hi Siew Mun,

I do know a butcher and also a fishmonger. They live in landed properties and drive vans to work. I suspect that they have lots of money stashed at home that no one knows about. ;p

Sometimes, you can take a man out of poverty but you can't take a poverty out of a man.
Frugal to me means living within your means. If your means improve, your living quality can and should go up.

AK said...
Prudence means living within our means.
Frugal means living way below our means. ;)

I think you meant to say "within" your means. :p
I invite u to spend money on me. Then, the money is yours. :p

Raymond Ng:
Yes, thanks for correction...
huh?

Assi AK:
You said
"Money not spend is not yours."
Spend on me and the money is yours. ;)
