The 5th "Evening with AK and friends".

Monday, June 15, 2015

It is going to be a slightly longer wait but the fifth "Evening with AK and friends" is only going to happen in the evening of 1 August 2015 (which is a Saturday) from 7pm to 10pm. A big "thank you" to Sean Seah for making his office available once more for me.

I received feedback from Derek, the man behind TheFinance, that there were some in the audience who would like to have the panel chat more about personal finance and CPF related issues.

So, for this session, I am very pleased to have Mr. Christopher Tan from Providend Limited on the panel.

Chris on TV.

Chris is quite the expert on personal finance matters, of course, and he is also a member of the advisory committee to the CPF Board. So, if you are joining us on 1 August 2015, come prepared with your questions on all things personal finance and let us pick Chris' brain in the first half of the evening! Make full use of this rare opportunity and learn how to make savvy financial decisions.

For the second half of the evening, we will have Mr. Ivan Loh on the panel. He is the author of the book "Profit from stock tips!"

Some who attended the last "Evening with AK and friends" would remember that his book was sold out rather quickly that evening. Ivan has promised me to make more copies of his book available for sale. It will still be at a special price of $12 a copy for those attending the fifth "Evening with AK and friends". Bite size wisdom in a book.

Again, because it is not easy to get a Saturday evening, like the last session, there will be 10 more seats available for this upcoming session for a total of 60 seats.

Get your tickets: here.

01 August 2015 (Saturday).
7pm to (latest) 10pm.
10, Anson Road, International Plaza, #36-05A. Singapore 079903.
Topic: Anything with regards to personal finance and investment (but don't expect us to have all the answers).

Take a close look at your personal finance matters and investments. Then, come prepared for an informative chit chat. Remember, this is a social event. So, don't be shy. Be sociable and chat!

Like the previous sessions, I hope that the fifth "Evening with AK and friends" will be fun and that everyone will also learn something in the process. To have some excitement, some lucky ones in the audience might even receive a surprise from AK. (Wink, wink.)

Good luck to all of us!

UPDATE on 16 June 2015, 10.30PM.

You know who you are. See you on 1 August. :)

I don't think there is any post suitable for this comment so I'll just hijack this latest post of yours!

I hope you and the other affluent readers of your blog can do a little to help this little cutie. I know AK is always on the frontier of helping children so hopefully I can use your blog to spread the word :)

Read her journey here...watch the YouTube at the end

Crowdfunding here....

PS: I'm not the starter of this funding, just a contributor :)

Hi ak. Been wanting to post this but have to create account first. I will just keep it short.

I believe your mission is to help the commoner out there. Given the overwhelming evidence (in the US) that index funds are the better choice for the average joe, i feel you should really take a look and not give the impression that dabbling in individual stocks is the way to go although that has worked for you.

Check out books and articles by John Bogle, William Bernstein, Rick Ferri, Larry Swedroe etc. E.g. http://rickferri.com/books-by-rick-ferri/Portfolio-whitepaper

Exactly which index funds to go for is another topic but the point is the message to commoners should be to go for low cost index funds instead of individual stocks. Hope you or other speakers can highlight this in your next evening with ak.

Hi flying chicken,

Been quite a while since your last comment here. Hope everything is going well for you.

I believe that it is always good to be charitable. Some people are dealt a bad hand of cards in life. I don't mind publishing your comment to raise awareness for this child.

Hi assi ak71,

It feels like I am talking to myself. I mean I always say I am talking to myself in my blog but this is really surreal! ;p

Well, I have published articles on what you are suggesting before:

1. Tea with Solace: Common Sense Investing.

2. Tea with Matthew: Blue Chip Investment Plan.

3. Tea with Matthew: POSB Invest-Saver Account.

From the emails and PMs I have received, I know some readers have taken these articles quite seriously too. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

I have attended a previous session. If you come prepared with questions and experiences to share, it will benefit all.

This will be my second session because - 1) learning and sharing never stops, 2) scope of material has changed, and 3) it is my last session before likely going away from Singapore for a year.

Hi caelitus,

I certainly hope that the audience are not as shy as the last session's. ;p

It is not always that I am able to get a personal finance expert like Christopher from Providend to join us. So, those who need some help clearing doubts regarding their insurance coverage and policies, for example, should really speak up. :)

Wishing you Bon Voyage in advance. ;)
