SPH has been flirting with the 200dMA in the last few sessions. Today, it closed firmly below the 200dMA, forming an inverted white hammer, at $3.69. I am watching this counter very closely as it is my favourite blue chip for its high yield and fortress-like core business and real estate interests. Also, I have divested about half of my investment in this company at $3.95, a lower high, in an earlier session after it hit a high of $4.18 in late April. So, I would like to load up again in order to keep my portfolio balanced.
Seeing how the 200dMA is in danger of being left behind, I plotted Fibo lines which suggest that price could go as low as $3.52 which coincides with the lows formed in the first half of Nov 09.
If we look at the weekly chart, we see that the rising 50wMA has not been compromised as a support. It is at $3.63 this week. I might buy some at $3.63 as a hedge.

the old school biz that i am seeing really being challenged by new economics.
in a certain sense, the ipad will probably make it really jialat.
Hi Drizzt,
I have no doubt that the good old newspapers will face stiffer competition from online information providers. I guess that is also why the Straits Times and the other papers in Singapore are now available online as well. ;)
It will take an entire generation or two before newspapers go electronic totally. That's my guess. Won't happen in my lifetime, I think.
The iPad is something from Apple I am seriously considering buying. The iPod and iPhone didn't attract me at all but the iPad is something else. :)
ipod touch is a great device for me. and i blog heavily about these devices and productivity at www.productiveorganizer.com
to me even if they are not completelyl wiped out, the profits are taking a servere hit.
you will realise that sph's newspaper and magazine earnings were not able to cover the div payout at all. they are really struggling.
Hi AK,
Sorry, a bit out of point from your article.
Just wanted to share with you, I bought a pre-owned kindle from ebay. At first, I was toying with either an ipad or a kindle, but I realised that reading ebooks is really just what I wanted, not the other good but unimportant functions that I can do without. As such, I settled for the kindle as the e-ink technology really makes reading e-books a breeze. Ipad, on the other hand, has a LED screen, so it's not much different from reading from a computer screen. Same size for the screen though, but I've to settle for black/white only.
If I'm gng to get an ipad, it'll not be for reading. it'll be more like to sit on my bed and watch movies or play some little games or check emails. Oh, perhaps I can use it to present in my work too :)
Hi Drizzt,
Yes, I remember you recently built a new PC! I am absolutely clueless about IT stuff and companies like SONY need people like me to be profitable. ;-p
SPH has diversified a long time ago into real estate and that is really the strategy that has helped them to continue doing well. Real estate will probably become a bigger component of their business in future. I like the Paragon. ;)
Hi LP,
A friend got an e-reader recently and is very happy with how he could pack hundreds of books into a small device that is slightly bigger than a paperback. I am afraid I am not there yet. ;)
As for the iPad, I have read all the raving reviews and one article in Newsweek was particularly persuasive. The author brought his mother who is definitely not into new IT stuff into a computer shop to look at the iPad. She was totally won over! She left the shop very disappointed when she was told she had to be put on the waitlist!
I have yet to hold an iPad in my hand and to play with it. I am not totally convinced that I need one and it seems more like a want to me at the moment. ;)
As an aside, I just came back 20 minutes ago after watching "Prince of Persia". I like it! Now, I think I might get the computer game. ;p
I still think we pay a premium for Apples iPod iPhone or iPad but reallly, coming from a human computer interaction point of view, its competitors can't offer a similar standard.

Hi Drizzt,
I am probably the worst person in Singapore when it comes to productivity. I am still a pen and paper person, mostly. ;p
Thank you for the wealth of information. I will take a look and will definitely bug you if I need a follow up. :)
Hi AK,
Glad you're friend loves the ebook reader. I loved one and am using it everyday to read comics, news, books that are in digital form (wink wink) but are shelved inside the computer just waiting for this day!
I'm still interested in the ipad but am wondering if I shld instead buy a laptop instead, given the same price, haha :)
Oh, POP (prince of persia) is good show. I loved it too. The game ah? erm...not so great, haha :)
Hi Drizzt,
Dark elf also uses ipad ah? hohoho!
You got one already? You seem very interested in getting one :) I'll have to see see look look when it comes here next month. Might buy it as a reward for myself towards the end of the year, hee hee
Hi LP,
If you do not yet have a notebook, of course it makes more sense to get one than an iPad. iPad is a luxury, I imagine.
POP the game is not so good? Ok. Take your word for it. Saves me some money and a lot of time! Haha ;-)
Oh, now that you mention it, no wonder the name Drizzt sounds familiar. From Icewind Dale Trilogy. Hehe.. :)
Wah i didn't know u guys read those books as well. Its a nick back in my SGFunds.com days.
And yes its that dark elf and this dark else likes the iPad. Probably not going to get it cause i think i will be fleeced by Apple.
Sometimes one asks the question whether one needs it. i like my iPod Touch 3G good enough at half its cost.
Btw if you guys are reading forgotten realms be sure to check out The Twilight War Trilogy. it talks about the Shade Erevis Cale and the war of the Shadowstorm.
Paul S Kemp, to me is a far better writer than RA Salvatore.
Hi Drizzt,
I have not touched a single Forgotten Realms' book in years. Maybe, I should start again but I don't have much time for reading these days or maybe, I have grown lazy. :(
My favorite was the Cleric's Quintet. 5 books about a cleric named Cadderly. Personally, I played a cleric in AD&D too. ;)
Maybe, we should form an investors' gaming club or something. All go on the battlenet when Diablo 3 is available? LP's idea. haha.. ;p
i hope my pc can play but blizzard will charge us a bomb surely
cleric quintet is one that i heard was popular. shall checked it out.
Twilight War is a cool trilogy and shows wat a great writer Paul S Kemp is. Erevis Cale is my current fav character now.
Hi Drizzt,
I am sure you can go on battlenet with your PC. I played Diablo 2 on battlenet for a while. It's free. :)
Cleric Quintet is a classic by now. I read that when I was a young student. I hope you like it.
Twilight War? Wah, you are really making me itch to go to the bookshops now! ;p
