High class ice cream without the high price.

Saturday, June 1, 2013

I have two big weaknesses when it comes to food: chocolates and ice cream. Put the two together and it is a killer combination as far as I am concerned!

Fairprice Express, the supermarket chain found at Esso petrol stations is running a "Buy 1 Get 1 Free" promotion for this particular ice cream:

So, as you might have guessed, I gave in to the triple temptation of chocolate, ice cream and reduced price.

The box has a cute little badge at the bottom left hand corner:

Wah! Environmentally friendly ice cream! Eat with less guilt!

The box opens like a treasure chest. Oooh, that's different:

It is a bit like a Black Forest Cake but without the cake:

After I was done, I took a closer look at the box and found that the ice cream was produced in Germany! Wow! Atas!

Price: $4.90 for two.

Made in Germany doesn't mean it is automatically high-class. Volkwagen is a mass-market class while BMW is a niche market class. Both are German makes. :)

Hi DC,

You should try the ice cream. That IS yummy. Slurp. ;p

Hi INVS 2.0,

I think saying "my car is made in Germany" sounds more atas compared to "my car is made in Thailand/Malaysia/China" lor. Incidentally, mine is made in Thailand. ;p

Ak, makes in Germany means more carbon footprint;)

Hi AK,

$4.90 for 2 sounds like an incredible deal! Was comtemplating if I should drive into Mobil just now but later decided that I'll go have my fav coconut ice-cream at Udders in Bt Timah area. Actually I still haven't recovered from my gastric flu and doctor had reminded me to abstain from diary products. I just pretended that I didn't know there is milk in ice-cream! LOL~

And I bought the 10-pack Kinder Bueno which is on sale in NTUC too. :P If you like also this, you can check it out. 8 plus 2 free packs at $10.90. Translates to $1.09 now per pack. About 25% savings.

Hmm...maybe I'll go grab the Magnum tomorrow. I usually can't finish the entire portion myself. Find it too sweet but hard to resist the one with almond nuts. :D

Thanks for the heads up.

Hi INVS 2.0,

I pooh pooh at luxury items which are made in China.

I am so terrible! ;p

AK71 said...

Hi Garfield,

I was hoping no one would mention that actually. Hahahaha... Ahem.

However, since I am only buying when there is a good bargain, I am not encouraging the importers by giving them fat margins. Those who were paying the full price are the guilty ones! Terrible!

Er... This means that I should buy more now because the importers might discontinue this due to a lack of fat margins!

Hi hunter,

Heard of the ice cream diet? ;p

Ice cream has protein while chocolate is good for the heart. As long as you do not exceed the daily allowance of calories for a healthy person, you are OK!

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor or dietician. Take this with a pinch of sugar, er, salt.

Hi Endrene,

Aiyoh, gastric flu? No dairy products! No point enjoying in the mouth and suffering in the tummy. Not worth it hor.

I am not crazy about Kinder Bueno. I am more a Kit Kat and Ferrero person. Kinder Bueno is too milky as a chocolate. Actually, I have grown to like darker chocolates. Sign of old age.

Hi Garfield,

Maybe, I was feeling playful earlier. ;p

Hong Kong? I like the food too but not much else.

I don't really enjoy going to Hong Kong very much because the air is mostly bad and I am asthmatic. So, not too good for me. :(

Clear value buy! I will get some later today... Thanks for the hint!

And yes, also curious to learn about those 'luxury' items from China..

Your post on this offer has caused the Magnum ice-cream to fly off the shelves lah! I have not been able to buy any yet. It's always out of stock. aiyoh.

AK71 said...

Hi ECL,

I just checked. This blog post attracted only 909 page views to date. So, I cannot claim credit for the out of stock situation. ;p

eastcoastlife said...

hahaha.... ok, so later I go to NTUC to check again whether the stock is in.
