When I saw the blog post, I exclaimed, "Xiaxue got a free car!" and immediately turned a shade of green. Which car is it? A beautiful white colour Nissan Sylphy, no less.
Reading on, I found out that, actually, she gets to use 3 different rental cars for a whole year for free. Well, that is still a fantastic sponsorship given the high cost of car ownership in Singapore.
I am very happy for Xiaxue but reading this just when I published my last blog post on why the mature and sophisticated lease their cars is just an amazing coincidence.
Xiaxue said:
"Many of us, especially those with young children, hope to drive but it is simply too expensive to own a car in Singapore nowadays. The value of a car will always depreciate too.
"The smarter option is to simply rent a car!
"My Sylphy is available for rent at Downtown Car Rentals for a day at only $135 - it is very reasonable!
"Drive it around to run errands, do groceries or bring the kiddos out for a picnic. You don't have to worry about insurance or road tax or even servicing the car, it's all inclusive!"

I mean, of course, she has to say this but I cannot imagine renting a car for $135 a day as being anywhere near being reasonable. If we were to rent a car for 2 days a week (to run errands and do groceries), that would set us back by at least $1,080.00 a month! Yikes! What is the size of our grocery bill in a month, I wonder?
Anyway, like I said, I am happy for Xiaxue but anyone who believes that anyone should consider renting a car regularly to run errands and to do groceries is probably bonkers.
OK, there, I have done it. There is not a chance in the world that I would get a rental car for free from any sponsor now. Sob.

I wonder how many people will listen to her and choose to rent a car. She is quite famous in the blogging world and her words does have certain influence to the general public.
$135 a day
$49,275 a year
$492,750 over 10 years...
I could buy an Aston Martin or Porche with that!
Hi SG Young Investment,
She has 169,000 followers on Twitter, 188,000 followers on Facebook and 12,518 on Google Friend Connect! You can bet she is influential. ;)
Hi Matthew,
Business idea for you? ;p
Well, I am sure she is not asking people to rent a car daily but even just a few days a month would be quite a setback for an average family in Singapore.
I think she can influence quite a fair bit of pple. But wow, $135 per day - my first thought was that its pretty expensive, I thought its ard $80 per day!
Hi FoodieFC,
She is a lifestyle blogger and probably Singapore's most influential. Well, she has been doing it for 10 years and she is a natural. Talent. :)
I also think $135 a day is rather pricey.
She thinks $135 a day is reasonable... this just shows why I never find her posts reasonable.
Really don't know why there are so many followers. Why do people like to hear unreasonable stuff?
I tried asking friends who follow her blog and got the answer: "her posts are interesting". OK, I guess it's better to be unreasonable (and not to mention obnoxious) and interesting than to be reasonable but boring.
Hi Ray,
I have to admit that I find her posts entertaining too. ;p
People like interesting things and usually don't like boring things. I think it is only normal.
Give me a choice, I would rather watch "Fairy Tail" now than to read a book on finance, for example. The former is make believe and exciting while the former is real and boring. -.-"
$135 is pricy. I get a MPV for $110 and thats from a major rental company.
Anyway, I dun read her noisy blog.
Hi SnOOpy168,
We have to think for ourselves, obviously. :)
Well, at least it is clearly stated that the blog post is an "ADVERTORIAL". So, readers will have to bear that in mind.
Hi AK,
I actually gave the same comment on her blog yesterday. It still shows 0 comment, apparently she doesn't approve that comment. Hidden agenda...
Hi Matthew,
Aiyoh, give her some face lah. You demolishing her stage. ;p
Carsharing is a much better option than 135 a day....
