Thanks to a reader, Solace, for highlighting this great deal on a great little book:
"Being interested in finance at an early age is pretty difficult for me because of all of the complex terminology and concepts. My brother, who is in finance, suggested this for me because it is easy to understand. He was completely right, Greenblatt was able to explain market analysis so well a 10 year old could go out tomorrow and be able to choose stocks well."
"It is written for the non-financial professional, but all could learn from this simple, but powerful concept. Basic concept is to buy good businesses at attractive valuations. Unlike most investment books, however, it actually tells you how to identify a good business and what an attractive valuation is. It also does not promise this strategy will work in all markets, but if you stick with it over a 5 to 10 year period you will be very happy with the results. If you want to dabble in buying individual stocks, you should read this book!"

Hi AK,
Thanks a bunch for recommending another good read. Just bought 2 of these. :)
What a good way to start a happy Sunday, shopping for knowledge! :D
Cheers,
Endrene
Hi Endrene,
This great deal was spotted by Solace but you are welcome. :)
Why did you buy 2 copies?
Actually, this book is a good choice if we want to introduce teenagers to the world of investing because of the way it is written. Could be a perfect gift for your sons. :)
Hi,
I read this book some years ago when i was still a student.
It was a very good read for those who are are beginning to explore Fundamentals Analysis.
I like books that are easy to unnderstand and can get the point across effectively and clearly.
Some financial books can be quite complex and generates more questions for you than answer your queries, confusing you along the way. haha
Regards
Solace
Hi Solace,
Not all good investors can be good teachers or good writers. So, I really appreciate it when I come across books like this one too.
Now with this bargain price, there is no reason why anyone should not get a copy. :)
Hi AK,
I just check better world books store for this book.
All the Condition: Used Very Good, books have been snapped up.
Your blog can reach out to many people and have a large audience hahaha.
Hi AK,
Yes, it's precisely for that reason you raised that I have grabbed 2 copies!
Decided not to be a laissez-faire mum anymore. High time to cultivate some productive interests like reading and learning about investments. The elder one who is 14 is always plugged in with a headphone and only talks to me about the funny stuff he finds online. The younger one who is 13 is interested in animal and disaster videos and bickering with the brother! They are both very happy-go-lucky kids with a thwarted sense of humour (inherited from me, I guess). But increasingly, as they are growing up, I'm discovering that I have not done enough in cultivating good habits in them, in many ways. :(
So. this book recommendation comes timely. I shall try to see if I can be successful in starting a 'reading club' at home. Haha.
And a BIG thank you to Solace for sharing this good book!
Endrene
Hi Solace,
I just checked. 9 copies of Good condition and 1 copy of Acceptable condition left. Still plenty to go around. :)
Thanks to you for sharing the good deal here. ;)
Hi Endrene,
I think your boys are fortunate to have a mom who thinks the way you do. At 14, I was collecting Figurine Panini stickers and reading Agatha Christie's novels. -.-"
Hi AK,
But I don't think I'll have much success in rolling out my grand plan.
Here's an excerpt of the conversation I had with my boys on our way to their Grandma's house.
Me: Hey boys, I've just ordered 2 books from Better World Books.com for you...(Son 1 raised an eyebrow showing a sceptical look)..It's a book on investing and we'll read it together. You guys haven't been reading books for ages!
Son 1: No, Mom. Please. I have been reading.
Me: Oh really? Textbooks you mean?
Son 1: Yes!
Son 2: And I have finished reading the entire History book! *Grin widely*
Me: *Speechless*...
Well, my two clowns never fail to make me laugh. I'll try again when the books arrived. Meanwhile, they shall continue to enjoy the laissez-faire 'goverment' at home.
So you see, you are still better. Agatha Christie novels? I don't even know what she had written till now. At that age, I was only reading 'True Singapore Ghost Stories'! and some Chinese books. :P

Hi Endrene,
OK, I am going to recommend something in my next blog post just for your boys. It is for people who don't like to read books with lots of words. I think this will do the trick. ;)
I read a lot as a boy, mostly fiction though. Agatha was my favourite writer when I was in lower secondary school.
Then, I discovered the fantasy genre and stuck with it from 15 to 18! Sigh. I could have done better for my A levels if I wasn't so lost in my fantasies. LOL.
Hi AK,
I'll crane my neck for your next blog post then. I would imagine my sons responses..."Hello Uncle AK, mercy please, don't plant anymore funny ideas in my Mom's head. Give us whatever childhood/teenagehood that is left!" LOL~
I must admit that I wasn't much of an avid reader. I flung my Lit in Sec 1 because I couldn't even finish reading the book! Haha.
The only 'interesting' thick book I read was the dictionary. Did it out of desperation, of course. But unfortunately, I didn't manage to finish it too. I let it retire after I got an A2 at 'O' levels. :P
Hey, you traded your grades for happiness. Very enlightened wor! See, never become PSC scholar also can make decent money. So proud of you! :D
Endrene
Hi Endrene,
Blog post is up. I hope your boys forgive me. Well, I am almost sure they would. In fact, they should enjoy the book. I know I did. ;)
I did still manage to get a scholarship to go to the university in the end. I had to since my family was not doing well financially. Sigh, days of my thoughtless youth.
All copies sold!
Thank you all for doing good as the company will donate a book to the underprivileged for every book sold. :)
More pre-owned copies just became available at US$17.46 each.
Thanks for the recommendation Solace and AK! I have bought a copy at about S$6.50, and just received it earlier this week. The book's condition was Used, Good, and when I received it, it was just as stated, perhaps even newer than typical library-book conditions.
I'm about halfway through the book now and I think its money well spent indeed. Cheers!
Hi Clueless Punter,
