In recent conversations, I revealed that one of the things I have been thinking of doing is to set up a foundation to help financially disadvantaged students in future.
In the meantime, I have been making regular donations for many years to help fund bursaries for deserving undergraduates in National University of Singapore where I spent 4 years of my life.
I believe that helping financially disadvantaged students so that they and their families will have a brighter future is one of the most noble things we can do. So, if you can afford to do so, you might want to find out more about NUS Annual Giving and how to make a donation: here.

Not wanting to sound sceptical, but I believe those who can make it to university would be able to secure scholarships etc. Have observed that some needy students sell their book vouchers to get cash instead.
How about donating at the primary/secondary level to ensure they make it to university in the first place?

Not everyone can secure scholarships and bursaries in universities.
I personally know of someone who was offered a place in the Honours year but she chose not to accept it because of financial pressures at home and she had to start working as soon as possible.
School fees at the primary school and secondary school levels are already heavily subsidised in our country. I don't think the fees are burdensome for most households in Singapore. There are also busaries given out to deserving primary school and secondary school students annually.
For children who genuinely need more financial assistance, their family can approach charities like Singapore Children Society which I make donations to regularly:

If you would like to make a donation, a $50 donation will go a long way to helping a school kid buy textbooks for a year. :)
A bit late ah, but last year's letter came with this studENT who through the bursary Prog got to go overseas for exchange. Isn't this supposed to help the needy? Couldn't the money be used to sponsor another student's local education? Kinda misusing the money so I donated to the straits times fund instead

This is one reason why I am going to accumulate funds to eventually start a foundation. I want to have more say in how my donations are used. ;)
