From time to time, ASSI would have a public service blog.
What? Don't bluff?
I am always blogging about the CPF? That is public service.
Orh.
Anyway, since PM Lee talked about the dangers of diabetes, I decided to kay poh a bit too.
AK was overweight and being overweight is a risk factor. Fat people have a higher chance of getting diabetes.
Change our diet.
For a start, consume less sugar.
Change our lifestyle.
For a start, become less sedentary.
Yes, go out more but not like this:
Overweight? Lose weight.
Instead of frozen yogurt or ice cream, try something healthier.
Granny Smiths. |
Carrots, broccoli & cauliflower. |
Vitagen or Yakult for pro-biotics. |
Blend everything together! Yummy and healthy dessert! |
Don't be the 1 in 9 Singaporeans who has diabetes.
If AK can do it, so can you!

Do you buy the "less sugar" version of Yakult? It costs more.
Hi DL,
I usually buy Vitagen Less Sugar because it is cheaper than Yakult Less Sugar. ;p
Hi AK, some yummy suggestions if u are not worried about these:
Adams natural peanut butter (natural oil separation, available from NTUC and Redmart)
Tahini (Redmart has an affordable brand Kasih, currently out of stock)
Heng Guan's fresh coconut milk (from NTUC fridge section, not the boxed UHT type).
Hi AK,
Have you been stair climbing? ;)
I saw the photos of you at The Fifth Person's Facebook during InvestX Congress 2017 and you definitely look trimmer as compared to a year or two back. :P
Hi Unknown,
Thanks for the suggestions. :)
I have been avoiding peanuts since learning about how it is bad for us. I have substituted with almond butter.
I have been taking cold pressed coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil and butter. I also take a daily dose of fish oil to get Omega 3. I like coconut milk too. I generally avoid other forms of edible oil now.
I had to Google Tahini and found that it is made from sesame seeds. This is also something I have been avoiding.
Hi Kevin,
Yes, still climbing stairs but only once a week instead of 3 times a week now. Bad AK! Bad AK!
I should look trimmer. I lost about 10 kgs and 4 inches around the waist. So proud of myself. ;p
Hi AK,
Since you are on the Low Carb High Fat(LCHF), suggest that you google "Milk Kefir".
This can be made at home and can replace the Yakult for probiotics, eliminating all the sugar.
Can also be be made with cream instead of milk, end result will be like sour cream.
There are facebook groups which give away the starter kefir grains, these can be reused literally forever if well taken care of.
Rgds,
Mel
Hi Mel,
Thanks for the suggestion. :)
I don't drink Vitagen daily as I am wary of the sugar although reduced.
As for milk, I don't drink much because I read that if we want to lose weight, we should avoid milk due to the the presence of milk sugar. I bought a can of evaporated milk not too long ago and took 2 weeks to finish it! I used it sparingly. ;p
I have been taking pro-biotics in a powder form. It is part of a vegetable and fruit powdered mixture. Sugar free.
So, I actually do not need to take Vitagen. The pro-biotics is just an excuse for me to cheat! ;p
Sesame and peanut butter are bad?
Hi DL,
Peanuts are not nuts but legumes. The main reasons for avoiding peanuts are the aflatoxins and lectins they contain. Aflatoxins are carcinogens and lectins are proteins which our bodies have difficulty digesting and they actually cause problems for our gut.
Sesame oil have way too much Omega 6 which causes inflammation. My diet already has plenty of Omega 6 and I don't need more of it. I need more Omega 3 in my diet. Taking more Omega 3 instead of Omega 6 has helped with my knee pain since I started on my new diet more than a year ago.
