Tea with AK71: Lipton, Twinings, TWG et al.

Friday, July 13, 2012

I think we would not have missed much if we stayed away from the stock market the last few days. So, we might as well take it easy and have a cup of tea once in a while. My usual is a cup of Lipton tea which is inexpensive and quite good, I feel.

I had Twinings before which is supposedly more atas. Is it really?

Then, when a friend from Hong Kong came to visit, he went into this very atas looking tea drinking place, TWG, in ION Orchard. He was looking to buy some TWG tea because they were not available in Hong Kong. He and his wife bought some in Canada and enjoyed it. I looked at the prices and anyone looking at me then might have wondered whether to call an ambulance. Super expensive!

What inspired this blog post? I recently ordered some supplements and was given a packet of very atas looking tea. It is St. Dalfour Classic Breakfast Tea. It is organic tea from Ceylon and blended in St. Dalfour, France. Wah! If it doesn't sound atas to you, you must be drinking more atas tea than this. Please help to educate me.

Note for non-Singlish speakers: The word "atas" in Singlish means "high class".

Hi JOPY,

You think so? Many think that my meals of barley, oats, instant noodles, raisin bread and 70c Nasi Lemak are not exactly good food. Haha.. You just have to read some of my older "Tea with AK71" postings.

As for this atas tea, I only have 1 packet. OK, 1 teabag, to be very exact. Very precious. Have not decided when to make tea with it. ;p

TWG has a very atas tea shop in IFC. Good place to be seen ATAS drinking tea there. Free kopi nesspresso shop is just "next door" @ IFC too.

Surprised to hear that your friend's choice is not available in HK

Would you like to share which one it is ?

Hi SnOOpy168,

Thanks for the info. I will have to tell my friend.

To be fair, when he visited TWG in Singapore, it was more than a year ago. Was TWG operating in IFC already back then?

Hi Ak71,

Visit The Beautfort Hotel Sentosa and there is a tea restaurant that offers a wide variety of favours. You might want to try it. :)

Ak, a less atas choice: M&S tea also bad..highly recommend peppermint or camomile

Hi INVS 2.0,

Eh, I think I will stick to drinking Lipton tea at work. Actually, it is not even inexpensive, it is free. ;p

Hi meesiam,

M&S not bad? I have some Robinsons shopping vouchers. I think I could give it a try.

I remember Camomile as rather soothing. It is a flower tea or something. No caffeine.

Peppermint, I tried before too. Nice! Maybe it is a guy thing but I have not come across a guy who does not like mint. :)

I am unsure of the opening date of this HK TWG cafe. But I sensed that it has been there for a while.
