One of the most rewarding things about blogging is getting to "meet" people online. Reading comments from readers and replying to them is the most rewarding bit about blogging, I feel.
Don't just take my photo. Talk to me! ;p |
In recent weeks, a reader, EY, has been very regular in leaving comments in my blog. A great sense of humour and a sparkling style characterise her writing. Her comments are little gems which never fail to make me smile or chuckle. After my many requests, here is her first and, I hope, not last blog post as a guest contributor in ASSI.
In case you are wondering, no, I did not conduct an interview. The entire episode was conjured up by EY. I hope you enjoy reading the following as much as I did:
Money talk,
money laugh!
All things are not created equal.
Money too. In our complicated world, discrimination has to have its way. So money
can’t just be money. It has to be good or bad, smart or dumb, clean or filthy,
quick or slow, or simply put, it has to be juxtaposed. Money, in all its forms,
has the largest contingent of believers and is capable of capturing the
imagination and the souls of the young and the old, the hot-blooded and the
bold. So for this first guest post (and maybe the only one!), AK and I should
have a no-holds-barred money talk. I’ll be brutally honest and unabashedly
irreverent, just so you would walk away with the last laugh.
AK: What are your views on money?
EY: Money is the loot of all
beavers. Everyone would like to have some stashed away and all of us would love
to have them grow on trees!
AK: Is there a difference between good money and bad money? How to tell
them apart?
EY: Of course, there is. Good money is the tragic hero that dies young.
For no fault of his, he is often thrown after bad money and always dies an
untimely death. While both are in the gaseous state after evaporation, good
money tends to have a few more water droplets crystalising from the tears of
the heart that has gone chilled.
AK: Which kind of money is most sought after?
EY: This is a difficult question. It
depends on individual preferences, I guess. But there is no dispute that hot
money goes places, for sexy is hard to resist.
It loves attention and has earned the celebrity status. Just be mindful
it always sings to the tune that nothing lasts forever. On the other hand, money
with hygiene issues is frowned upon by most.
But it is adored no less by opportunists looking to indulge in their
washing fetish that would make it cleaner than clean. And then, there are many
who think that size matters. Big money
beats small money hands down. But big
money is said to belong to the losers for every one claims he has lost it
before. Borrowed money is the most learned of them all. It chooses to work only for the rich to get
enrolled into every asset class. Coffee money is the most eloquent and it speaks
the hardest truth. But it has the bad habit of tooting the loudest under the
table too. Quick money has its appeal if it is not always in a rush. It promises
many spins like the roller coaster and never fails to take you back to where
you begin. Then there is also this one kind that plays hard-to-get. It has no
charms whatsoever and is only good at making you sweat and toil. It used to be
faithful but now, it is only honest, at best. But if you ask me, I find prize
money most attractive. I love its effortless beauty and the big bow that steals
the show!
AK: So, what would you do to accumulate more money?
EY: Buy more clothes with deep pockets and more
shoes to walk the talk.
AK: What are your parting words to the readers of ASSI?
EY:
Thanks a bunch for the air time and I’ll like to share my favourite
quote. Live every moment, laugh every day, and love beyond words. And in this
context, it can be interpreted as live every moment for money to find you
anytime, laugh every day to the bank, and love beyond words because money is on
the other end!

AK,
Ask her out ;)
Ha!Ha!
AK71 you have found a friend who can challenge SMOL. Opps! Shsss... Don't let SMOL knows.
My understanding:-
Whatever it is with money, you can look at it in anyway or any angle you want; It's simply never going to be yours until you spend it.
Shalom.
Live and learn the journey in a happy state of life... I like the quote - sums up our walk of life.

Hi AK and EY,
I really like the witty and bit of dark humor. Did you guys meet up or just conversed via email?
Cheers!
Hi SMOL,
Found someone who is a match for you? Hahaha... ;)
Hi temperament,
You think so too? Hahaha.. I think EY is more than a match for SMOL. ;p
I shall leave EY to respond to the rest of your comment. This is her blog post after all. :)
Hi Derek,
EY left comments in my blog and I replied. Email? Not until today.
EY is a natural wordsmith, isn't she? I hope she continues to guest blog here in ASSI. :)
Hi folks,
Thanks for being so accommodating! Here's an official hello to those who have commented.
SMOL, my pleasure to 'meet' you. A match? Can I be a lighter or a bunsen burner instead? :P
temperament, that's very true! Care to pass some of your money to us and count it as your spending? We are all eager to help you make your money yours! Hahaha.
Derek, I'm like you, a fellow reader of ASSI. I chanced upon AK's blog while browsing the propwise.sg website some time back. The posts in this blog just spoke to me! I was in the process of concretising my long term financial plans and there are plenty of gems here. Since then, I've been visiting regularly. I also like the perspectives shared by many interesting folks here. :)
^-^ with SMOL.
Ask her out, AK.
@EY - nice read here. Looking forward to the next one soon.
Hi Endrene,
If you were a lighter or a bunsen burner, then, you would really be more than a match for SMOL. Hahahaha... ;p
Be careful as SMOL is trying to be a match-maker here. Hahahaha... ROFL!
I like your suggestion to temperament. I have always wondered what to tell people who say that their money is not theirs until they have spent it. You are wicked! ;p
Hi SnOOpy168,
Another match-maker? Wahahaha.. Sorry. You no match for me. ;)
Yes, I am also looking forward to another blog post from Endrene. Don't rush her though. Good things come to those who wait. :)
Hi SMOL and Snoopy168, I expect you guys to be kinder. I just started contributing 1 post here and you are telling AK to give me the red card? Can I stay in the match and I promise to mind my language and not spit at anyone? Okay, where's the ball now?
EY,
The pleasure is mine ;)
I'll pass on the lighter though. I don't smoke; I only inhale.
A funny girl who knows her shoes and dresses. Now that's why I call knowing your priorities!
I like!
Hi EY & AK71,
Both of you indeed response very quick to what i say about my money. Please remember i say until i spend my money and not any other way. Remember the "i" O. K.
Now let's see how you think i should spend my money in a way that also becomes yours? Ha! HA!
Very witty indeed!
You all so BAD!
SMOL help! SMOL where are you? Beware of bunsen burner, lighter and AK71 O. K.?
Hey! This girl knows her sports too!
Endrene,
Are you a gamer?
Do you read manga?
Do you do cosplay?
Hi temperament,
Aiyoh, what did I do? I am totally innocent. EY suggested something, I only seconded. I not smart enough to suggest anything quite as wicked.
You are actually asking SMOL for help? You must be really feeling the heat. ;p
Hey temperament, sell you some laughter, can?
SMOL, does gamer know how to make game turkeys tastier? Can we stuff manga into the turkey? Well, I don't do cosplay. Mickey Mouse is me.
AK71,
Oh yes bystanders who join in can always try to plead innocent.
Yes! bunsen burner and lighter are definitely so much more hotter & powderful than a match. Our friend SMOL so far has kept our faces. He has done us proud. His words as sword is just as sharp if not sharper than EY. Ha! Ha!
i think we can sit back relax and enjoy the match of the century.
Ha! Ha!
One wordsmith is already a headache. Now we have 2.
i say,
"What shall we do with a drunken sailor early in the morning"?
Hi AK
Maybe u really shld consider asking EY out ^_^
There is a saying tat goes 酒逢知己千杯少。
Think both of your hit 'words' quite well:)
Hi EY
Thanks for the post. Next one plse:)
Hi Kim,
Aiyoh. Please, please. This is ASSI, not SDU hor. ;p
Hi temperament,
Aiyoh, what you saying? So cheem? I blur liao. ;-p
Anyway, since the birth of ASSI, I have never switched the comments moderation mode off. You might have noticed that it is off now.
This is temporary as you guys might want to spar into the wee hours of the morning. I have had a pretty long day at work and I am hitting the sack early.
Have fun but not too much, OK? haha.. ;)
Hi AK,
One more resolution for me to add for 2013. To meet each financial blogger in person. Just a casual chat over a cup of coffee.
Cheers!
1) Endrene, touche!
2) OK shy boy, I've done checking her out for you.
Next is up to you ;)
Mei mei you take. If it's Jie jie, ring my bell!
Sweet dreams.
Hello SMOL, I didn't know I was available in the supermarket? Thanks for checking me out! I hope you found me in the premium product section. Eh but, strange leh, I remember I was only on that rack eons ago and got checked out not long after. Oh, you must have seen the marketing poster. That is for my sister! :P Oops, I hope my sis isn't reading this. Or she'll think I'm trying to 'lehlong' her!
Hi temperament, you are not drunk this morning, are you? If so, go out now and have raindrops falling on your head. Sobering! :D
Hello Kim, yes, 千金(斤:P)易得,知己难求。干杯!与其相濡以沫,不如相忘于江湖? 来,人生得意须尽欢,莫使金樽空对月!
Hi AK,
Your blogger buddies are really an interesting bunch! Maybe I should start dropping by their blogs to show my support as well so that they won't be so jealous of you.
BTW, really appreciate your 'hospitality' at ASSI. This very engaging session has made my birthday a special one. Yes, happy birthday to me! :D
Cheers,
Endrene
Hi AK,
I see that Endrene's guest post has sparked off a lively conversation over here! You might want her regular contributions to boost your ad revenues haha!
Endrene wow your Chinese also top-notch! "天生我材必有用,千金散尽还复来。" Happy birthday!
Hope you can write more often.
Best wishes,
Eugene
Hi Derek,
That resolution sounds like it is going to be time consuming but it sounds like a good one. ;)
However, I hope you don't mind a reclusive blogger like me not meeting up. Some day, I might come down from my little hut in the mountains... Then, I buy you liang teh (I am not a coffee drinker).
Hi SMOL,
See? Match-making lah. Now, got yourself burnt. Don't get me burnt in the process, ok? Hahaha... The good gals are all spoken for. Bad guys like us are left on the shelf. :(
Hi EY,
Wah! You are more than effectively bilingual. I think I am bilingual but I am having a tough time digesting your literary offering.
I am most impressed. :)
Hi EY,
You should visit SMOL's blog. He is a wordsmith just like you. Plenty of irreverence and innuendos to be found in his blog posts and the comments section. OK, some of the suggestive bits are really due to readers reading too much into things but that is what makes it fun. ;)
I am pleased that your first blog post here in ASSI has been a rewarding one for you. I think you can tell from the comments that we appreciate it too. So, don't stop writing, please. :)
Happy birthday to a fellow archer!
Hi Eugene,
Indeed! Perhaps "Tea with EY" would one day be in the same league as Neil Humphrey and Mr. Browns' columns in the tabloids. Then, perhaps, we could start doing product endorsements like Kim Ng for New Moon abalone. She got a new VW car and $100k in compensation, iirc!
Ad revenue? I pooh pooh at ad revenue! That is in the junior league. ;p
LOL, wonderful exchange, I enjoy.
Happy Birthday Endrene.
Cheers
KL
AK,
Aiyoh! I only say ask her out for coffee or drinks that's all.
Got good vibe met again. No feeling like that lor!
Match-make your head! You think too much! LOL!
Insect! How dare you say I dress suggestively?
I dress whatever I like! Even if they are itsy bits.
I am liberation. I am power. I am MAN!
OK, burning my underwear now will be a bit "over" right?
Happy birthday Endrene!
Glad you are having fun here :)
No wonder. I am archer too.
Help me unleash the "animal spirits" that's bottled-up in our mutual archer friend :)
Hi SMOL,
Aiyoh, OK lor, I think too much. Sorry hor. Haha..
You comment triggered a song in my head. It was a campfire song we scouts used to sing.
Your grandma and my grandma sitting by the fire.
Your grandma said to my grandma: "Let's set our bras on fire!"
Hahahaha.. Inane but fun. I miss my days of thoughtless youth. :)
Happy Birthday Endrene!
酒逢知己千杯少。 话不投机半句多。
Though i am a ignoramus i like above saying very much. Has it any connection to Li Pai or someone else. Li Pai is a great tippler. After tippling then he could show his genius in creating poems. i suppose after tippling and going high his mind is "free of everything".
This reminds me why some creative souls need to take drug before they can be creative.
Hey! What about you?
Ha! Ha!
Shalom.
Hi temperament,
Wah! You like walking on thin ice. You talked about LKY and questioned his "greed" which almost certainly would get my blog gazetted if the authorities should find out. Now, you are venturing into the realms of alcholism and drugs! I certainly hope that I do not have any Puritans amongst my readers. Hahahaha... ;)
Pssst... Which drug do you think is the most effective in unleashing the creative potential in us? You can tell me. I promise I won't squeal on you. ;p
Hi Ak,
不 要 害 我 lay!
Endrene how about you?
We all need to be free of everything at least once in a while-in order to think straight too. Not necessary to think crooked ma.
Drugs?
Everyone has his own favourite. What's yours?
$? Tippling? Exotic Food?
Ha! Ha!
不 要 害 我 lay!
Hi gentlemen, I'm gonna channel my Ah Lian spirit here. Wa lau eh! Mai tu liao! Two bottles, 3 glasses here. Huh? Not enough ah? Bring one crate lah! Toast, toast, toast! XD
Hey AK, you think my cheena is cheem? Okie okie, I speak in prose, not poetry, ya? :P
Hello Eugene, you are a fan of Chinese poetry too? That phrase is the most motivational in the entire poem. I like it a lot!
Hi KL, you are welcome to join in the exchange. And thankiew for your birthday wishes! :)
SMOL senior/sifu, I am most humbled by your flowery language. No need to try beating me pants down, pls. I can't win you one. I concede defeat, okay? Hahahahaha. But you are very right that we should help our fellow archer loosen up a bit. Can we start a gang called the '3 Archers'? Let's be serious. Start thinking about the vision, mission, and our strategic thrusts! AK, nominate you as gang leader, can? :P
Hi temperament, 酒逢知己千杯少 seems to be from a different era - the Qing Dynasty. But it is as gusto as the musings of Li Bai, no less! And I must say, you guys have really made my day. 以诗会友,乐哉!
Hi temperament, do nuts count as drugs? I'm wondering why I'm always as high as a monkey! :P
The exotic food AK likes is books! He chews on them all the time, I bet. XD
Hi EY,
Aiyoh, you even know which Chinese dynasty the literary works are from? Oh my!
Thank you for nominating me as gang leader but I believe I am not of that temperament. I am quite comfortable in my little hut in the mountains. Kamsiah you hor. ;)
Hi AK,
I'm just what the Cantonese would say ‘识少少扮代表,识唔多扮大哥'! Not as learned as you think. Just happened that I found those drinking verses interesting and remembered some of them. BTW, I attended a neighbourhood school that didn't offer Higher Chinese. So, my Chinese is only normal normal lah.
Oh talking about mountain, my secondary school is perched on a hill. There is also a swimming pool there. You can consider shifting your hut over! Don't stay so high up in the moutains lah. :P
Hi EY,
Well, it is all relative, isn't it? Your normal is probably very good to me. Haha.. I went to a mission school which didn't want me after I completed primary education and I went to an ah beng school after that. I didn't know it was viewed as an ah beng school until I went to JC. Haha..
I am quite happy in my swimming pooless hut. I don't really know how to swim anyway. As for moving from mountains to hills, hmmm... Is that considered a downgrade? I don't want my neighbours in the hut on the nearby mountain laughing at me wor. ;p
Good morning everyone. Leave this for 14 hrs and heaps of interesting replies. Chilling the bottles of Pilsen in the snow now. Opening it during break time, by the ring side, to watch the drama unfold. Love this.
@ Endrene ...
oyeux anniversaire!
Buon compleanno!
Feliz cumpleaños!
Alles Gute zum Geburtstag!
สุขสันต์วันเกิด!
축 생일!
誕生日おめでとう!
祝你生日快樂,心想事成!
Happy Birthday to you, Endrene
Wishing you happiness and
may all your dreams come true! ^-^
Red card ? Where got ? Or THAT red card ? then U no chance liao. Either way, I hoped that there is no need to relook at market rates & the debate about the $$ in ang pow over the value of friendship / pe. Expense leh.
1) AK,
Before doing strategic thrusts (she naughty or what?) with EY, you better make sure she above 16 ;)
2) EY,
Please don't call me senior or sifu. Just call me SMOL or Jared.
Chill. I'm way pass the age for cat fights. LOL!
Hi SMOL,
Er... today's weather is not bad hor?
Hi SnOOpy168,
Wow. Birthday wishes in 9 languages. How thoughtful! About that red card, I shall now call in the referee to flash it at SMOL!
Dear SMOL,
You must have forgotten that your itsy bitsy outfit earned you a yellow card earlier on. Now, AK shall ask you out and I will award you a direct kick!
To SMOL, I meant 'reward' not 'award'. BTW, it's not up to you to choose where I shall kick!
Hi EY,
Er... I think the weather is going be nice tomorrow as well. :)
Hi AK,
Yes, the weather will be nice everyday! Hahahaha.
I shall stop bickering with SMOL. But I must say, I salute him for his irreverence and impudence! :)
Hi EY,
SMOL is also a poet! Go read his blog. I also contributed to the poetic atmosphere in the comments section. ;p
aiya. My beer turned into ice. Forgotten that it is chilled in the snow....
have a good weekend ^-^
If they were Budweiser, it would give a new meaning to Bud Ice (which was something I used to drink sparingly in my younger days). ;p
