NEA is going to step up enforcement in the next 3 months and people who flout the new rules could be fined up to $1,000.
Of course, we know that smoking is bad for smokers. We also know that it hurts the health of the people around them. Then, why smoke?
Furthermore, with cigarettes so expensive, it makes sense for Singaporeans who are smokers to consider quitting. Buy a pack of stuff only to light up and inhale pollutants into the body?
Burning money and messing up the body. That's what smoking is. Where is the good sense in that?
Smokers beware! The bigger expenses will come in future in the form of medical and hospitalisation bills. Smoking kills in more ways than one!
People who are investing for a more secure financial future should not smoke.

an outright ban in all public area and where food are served, will do. Just like Hong Kong. Sure, there will be protest & threats about voting the opposition, but healthcare is a long term cause & effect thingy.
but how well will this be enforced ? the 20% yellow box thingy @ kopi tiams, are most often flouted.
I question the effectiveness of such a move. Rather then extending smoke free zones, I prefer the govt to put more effort into enforcement. It is not uncommon to see people smoking in bus stops and void decks but these people still get off scott free. Personally I hate smokers and the smoke they puff out. Inconsiderate fellows!
Hi SnOOpy168,
With the current restrictions, I think all eateries will become no-smoking zones. Yeah!
Hi flyingchicken,
I see you have the same concern as SnOOpy168 regarding lax enforcement.
Yes, I agree that we need strict enforcement but it seems that the authorities are not doing a good job of this. :(
Perhaps, non-smoking members of the public could help with the enforcement. I wonder if we have more non-smokers than smokers in Singapore.
non-smoker to squeal on the smokers who flouted . Let's do it the taiwan style. Send in evidence (e.g. photo with details of the offence) to the authorities. Upon successful enforcement, the sender gets 50% of the fine paid.
Why 50%? Unlike cars, human don't have licence plate or NRIC beaming on their forehead or LV bags.
Hi SnOOpy168,
I guess if we incentivise it like you suggested, it could make people take action. :)
There could be a fear that smokers might turn violent and go after the photographers though. ;p
