I am not IT savvy but I always make sure that the anti-virus and firewall software are up to date on my PC. I know it costs money but it is money well spent.
Of course, there are legal and illegal ways of getting protection. Some people have told me about the latter but I am not interested.
I think the engineers, I call them computer virus fighters, deserve to be paid for the work they do like any of us. Software piracy is theft.
Anyway, I am writing this because I found a good deal for anyone who is shopping around for an up to date anti-virus and firewall program.
If we were to buy Trend Micro Maximum Security from their Singapore website, it will cost S$99.00. However if we were to buy this from USA, it will cost only US$44.95 and this is licensed for use on 3 devices.
After conversion, the cost is about S$59.00 (less than S$20.00 per device).

Hi AK,
You can get AVG for free. It's a pretty neat antivirus tool too!
Thanks
Vanson
Hi Vanson,
No catch? I am generally wary because I got bad experience with free trials before.
Anyway, I did a search and found this site with reviews from users:
http://freebies.about.com/u/r/od/computerfreebies/gr/avg-anti-virus-free-review.htm
There's also Avast. I think its good and free too. I used to use AVG, until recently when I swapped. Can't remember why... software conflict maybe...
So far I've nvr paid for anti virus. I think the free ones are good enough, as long as you don't go to shady websites. ;)
Hi Jeremy,
I did try free ones before but had complications. I had trouble uninstalling too. Got quite fed up.
For many years now, I have paid for anti virus/firewall. I guess I will just stick to what I am comfortable with. :)
I wonder how these free anti virus/firewall companies survive.
What are shady websites?
Shady websites are those that look too good to be true, offering free stuff for downloads and such. I think majority of virus problem come from such cases and clicking on files from unknown emails.
I think the free antivirus companies have people that pay for the more comprehensive version as upgrade packages often exist.
But yup, like insurance and buying stocks, comfort is best. As long as you have peace of mind the money spent is worth it. :)
Hi Jeremy,
Oh! I know what you mean. A friend was sent an email saying he won an iPad. He opened the attached file and that was the end of his notebook. -.-
Coincidentally my gmail was hacked this morning.. sigh... the hacker pretended as me and sent emails to instruct fund transfer.. fortunately i didn't lose anything but still a trauma.. if you use gmail, i suggest you activate 2-steps verification.. i am looking at getting a better virus scanner (i already have free one.. (usually without internet security).
Hi Anic,
Internet security/firewall is important especially if we do banking online. I do banking online and, once in a while, buy some stuff online too. So, just a simple anti virus is not enough.
Can consider Trend Micro Maximum Security now that there is a good deal but remember not to buy from their Singapore website.
