Gourmet sandwich by AK71 Deli.

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

I enjoy a nice gourmet sandwich once in a while but I find them rather pricey. A black pepper ham sandwich from Swiss Bake would easily set me back by $7.00 or more, for example.

Anyway, you guys know by now that I like to prepare and bring my own food to work. So, having a craving for some black pepper ham sandwich last night, I went grocery shopping at NTUC Fairprice.

I got some organic Romaine lettuce, 200gm of black pepper ham, a loaf of wholemeal bread from Gardenia and some low fat cheese. All for less than $10.00 and enough to make 6 sandwiches. Still have some lettuce and cheese leftover.

I had the bread ends. I love bread ends.

Oishi!

Enough to provide breakfast for the whole family. Nice atas sandwiches!

All hands to the deck!

AK has bought a gourmet sandwich!

The ice sheet has finally cracked!!!

Finally our GDP got chance!

Eh?

Opps!

False alarm! False alarm!

Stand down. Stand down.

AK MADE his own "gourmet sandwich"...

(From NTUC some more; not Cold Storage %#&*^$@!)

Sorry, sorry.

Hi SMOL,

Aiyoh, you make me sound like some giam siap fellow.

This is a big step forward compared to just having oatmeal. -.-"

Buying from NTUC Fairprice also helps our country's GDP mah. LOL.

I usually have some time at night and preparing food to bring to work the next day is a productive use of time. :)

Invest in a can of uncracked black pepper and next time, just crack the pepper over regular ham sandwich. It really feels more atas!

Hi Patty,

I like the sound of that but it could take me years to finish the black pepper. -.-"

I don't cook like you do. So, buying what I want to eat as and when could be a better idea for me. :D

Hi KC,

I love your idea and if I were eating at home, I would do it and I have done it before.

Unfortunately, with tomatoes and cucumber, I really like to eat them fresh and preparing the sandwiches the night before, they are not so good anymore. Well, to me, anyway.

As for sesame seeds, I love them! Unfortunately, they are apparently bad for me and I have to avoid them. After taking sesame seed products, I usually have indigestion issues. It is probably sesame oil. :(

Hi lofan,

A reader from Malaysia! A warm welcome. :)

I am preparing for a vacation and I will be away for about 9 days from next Monday. So, I don't think I will be doing any heavy blogging till after Christmas. Well, I think so anyway.

When I come back from my vacation, I will probably write a couple of pieces regarding my S-REITs portfolio as well as what I have done in the non S-REITs space. I guess I will also share my thoughts on what I might do in 2014.

I cannot say that I will be addressing all your questions in those blog posts as I certainly do not have all the answers but if you like hearing me talk to myself, look out for those blog posts. Akan datang. :)

Hi E H,

I like your idea and until a few years ago, I was toasting my sandwiches without fail.

I have been told, however, that it could encourage carcinogens forming. So, I am less enthusiastic about toasting these days but I still do it from time to time. :)

Hi Serendib,

Long time no see! :D

I always feel sad when I see people shaving off the sides of bread loaves and discarding them. It still happens. :(
