I woke up in the morning to discover that I was out of socks! Really!
It reminded me of an episode in Black Adder:
Prince George on the left and Black Adder on the right. |
BLACKADDER: Sir, if I may make so bold, a major crisis has arisen in your affairs.
PRINCE GEORGE: Yes, I know Blackadder. I have been pondering it all morning.
BLACKADDER: You have, sir?
PRINCE GEORGE: Yes. Socks. Run out again. Why is it that no matter how many millions of pairs of socks I buy, I never seem to have any?
BLACKADDER: Sir, with your forgiveness, there is another, even weightier problem.
PRINCE GEORGE: They just disappear. Honestly, you'd think someone was coming in here stealing the damn things and selling them off.
In case you are wondering, Black Adder was selling them off. The Prince was clueless.
Anyway, in my case, the population of socks in my cupboard has been dwindling as they got worn out and thrown away. So, I decided to buy some new socks in the evening.
I went to the nearby shopping mall and walked into Giordano for the first time in, er, 3 or 4 years? Made a beeline for the socks which were going at 4 pairs for $20. Got the shorter ones because they feel a bit more cushy compared to the ones of regular length, if you know what I mean.
8 pairs in all. I think they should last me another 3 or 4 years. Well, I hope so, anyway.
Funny!

Nice story about socks
if i may, Uniqlo has got quite good socks at 5 pairs for about $10
Hi Dividend Chaser,
I don't spend much money on clothes usually. :)
Hi Jason,
Really? That is a steal!
The last time I bough some socks from them was maybe 3 years ago. I don't remember it being so cheap.
Is this a special offer? Still available?
However, if the socks are the same as the ones I bought then, I will say that these new ones from Giordano are more comfortable. Stamped and certified by AK71. I am wearing one pair right now. ;p
well, that you have to go check yourself.......otherwise, Daiso is also not bad. but different folks different strokes.
Hi Jason,
Daiso? Yikes. No, their socks cmi one. I crave comfortable socks. ;p
Thanks for sharing anyway.
Hi AK,
Salute you for spinning such a story around your socks! Well done, sir! :P
No more socks? Could mean you had somebody charmed them off (without you knowing it?)! LOL~
BHG sells socks from Hush Puppies and some other pretty renowned brands at 3 pairs for $9.90, iirc.
Hi Endrene,
One day, when I retire, maybe, I will write stories for children. Imagine that! How socking! Er, I meant shocking. ;p
Hush Puppies' shoes, ok. Socks? Hmmm... I know they branched into underwear and singlets too.
Anyway, no more purchases for the next 3 to 4 years! Hurrah! :D
Hi AK,
Writing children's story is cool! Why shocking? That's what I wanted to do too. I did a module on Children's Lit in uni and my tutor encouraged me to get it published. The title is 'What Wilby will be'. A story about a little bumblebee trying to deal with his mum's expectations and his dream to be something out of the ordinary. I applied for the First time writer award/grant but was not selected. I think the illustrations were not up to scratch. Will pick it up again if I can find a kind sponsor. Hahaha.
Well, I'll look forward to reading your children storybooks! I've always enjoyed them more than novels. And yes, another secret leaked - I've not quite grown up yet! LOL~
Hi Endrene,
I did a bit of poetry in my undergrad days. Got myself a Merit Award and a $10.00 book voucher for my efforts. LOL.
I enjoy reading children's books too. I read all the Harry Potter books. I enjoyed the magical adventures of Septimus Heap. Now, I am reading the Ranger's Apprentice series. LOL. Shhh...
Keep the old socks.
Good for cleaning, polishing.
Just use them like gloves, put some wax or nothing just to dry the car, windscreens. Put some polish to shine door handles, brasswares, shoes, leather furniture, wood furniture, windows, ovens, blinds..
... and then throw them away!
Hi Veronika,
Good idea! However, I won't use them on my car. I think they are probably abrasive after so many years. I have a couple of microfiber towels to clean my car with. ;p
I buy "Good Morning" towels to use for general cleaning of anything at home. Old socks? I will have to keep that in mind. ;)
Hi Ak,
Reusing old socks for other purpose goes in line with the theme of recycling, The 3R: reduce, reuse n recycle hahaha.
Not to mention it saves money also, in line with frugal lifestyle that you will promote. Lol
Hi Solace,
I am very much for the 3 "Rs". Haha... But to reuse my worn out socks is something new to me. ;p
Life is good when I learn a new thing everyday. :)
