Last night, I went shopping with my mom. In NTUC Fairprice's dried goods section, I saw a pack of green beans. Very nice looking beans too. Price: $2.25.
I said to my mom that it has been a while since I had green bean soup that she makes. So, she offered to cook for me and I could bring it to work for lunch today.
That packet of green beans made 10 bowls of green bean soup. Each bowl is about 450 ml in volume. So, my lunch today costs $0.30, maybe. Why a few cents more? Must include cost of sugar and gas, I guess. LOL.
My mom would usually add glutinous rice and Gula Melaka but I have a preference for plainer staples in the last few years. Imagine I actually find plain porridge yummy. So, this is just green bean, water and very little sugar.
Thanks, mom!

Wow,
So cheap and healthy meal. You save $ in everyday living. Hope I am like you. Unfortunately not. I retired 2 yrs ago and went to visit my son(studying) in sydney for 9 days. Spent Aud$1600 for meals excl lodging, aifares, etc,
Makes me feel guilty at times.
I love the green beens as i always asked my wife to cook on certain weekends.
Cheers
Hi Thomas,
You are retired and I guess you are probably quite senior and financially comfortable. I think there is no need to feel guilty about spending A$1,600 while on a 9 days holiday down under then.
If I were you, I would try to enjoy myself too. While on vacations, I am usually easier with money. Achieving financial freedom allows us to enjoy life a bit more without the guilt. No? :)
Hi AK,
I am 55 this year. Still got plenty to learn from you.
It took something like green bean to write to you.
How i wish i am investing like you. You are a source of inspiration to me. Good luck
Hi Thomas,
I am talking to myself mostly but I can be quite loud. So, please don't believe everything you hear. -.-"
The amazing power of green bean soup. It connects people! ;p
Go to the dried goods stalls at market. The beans cost lesser there.
Hi E H,
That was what my mom said too but I don't go to the wet markets and we were already in NTUC Fairprice anyway. So, just take and pay.
I am not a penny pinching person, you know. You mean you didn't know? :o
