PSI at 170! OMG!
Last night, I went cycling. After half an hour, my eyes were feeling gritty and I was feeling the onset of throat irritation. It was terrible.
Thank goodness I never open the windows of my room!
My air con and air purifier are on whenever I am in my room. Otherwise, with my allergies, I think I would be hospitalised by now.

This is definitely contributing to global warming.

Today Haze problem is getting worse,
I started to feel difficulties in breathing,
I think we should avoid outdoor activities and started wearing mask to protect ourselves.
Hi AK
I am embarassed to say that I am an Indonesian and having heard how the Indonesian minister responding to such shameful act of blaming this and that. I still can't believe that they actually say that.
Hi yeh,
I went out for a few minutes just now. The air stung my eyes. :(
Yes, stay indoors and if we don't have an air purifier at home, we should buy one.
P.S. I do not own stocks of Honeywell or Sharp. ;p
Hi B,
Maybe, you can write an email to the minister and remind him that there are many Indonesians who are staying in Singapore just like you. ;p
Sigh, the Indonesian government should do a better job of enforcing the laws.
While you are suffering, somebody is collecting dividends from the profits of land clearing. This is capitalism.
thats how it feels like when investing now a days. we can't just look at our local enviroment any more.
one stupid central bank moves and we all and i meant all get hit!
Hi Tien,
The laws are there. They just have to be strictly enforced. Unfortunately, we will have to depend on the Indonesian government to do this. :(
Perhaps they are busy collecting dividends too haha.
Hi coconut,
The world has become a lot more interconnected, a lot smaller and in more ways than one too.
One day, I will go into hermitage and minimise contact with the world. I think I will truly find peace in solitude. :)
as for the fire in indonasia, i think its a natural phenomenel, no one is to be flame, not even the farmer who set the fire. its the geografy structure of the underground.
when we were young, we used to set fire in our backyard as well to clear the rubbish.
go into hermitage is a way to avoid the problem, not solving it.
you should comes to trading (haha) and find peace in chaos.
Hi coconut,
A volcanic eruption is a natural phenomenon. People setting fire to the land to clear it? That is totally unnatural although people would do it naturally because it is the cheapest way to clearing the land.
多一事不如少一事. If I can avoid problems, why try to solve problems? ;)
The Pollutant Standards Index, or PSI, provides a uniform system of measuring pollution levels for the major air pollutants.
The PSI is reported as a number on a scale of 0 to 500 and is the air quality indicator. These index figures enable the public to determine whether the air pollution levels in a particular location are good, unhealthy, hazardous or worse.

when does human becomes unnatural?
we are the product of nature! everything that occured are natural phenomenon (sorry borrow your spelling).
The haze is caused by continued and uncontrolled "slash and burn" cultivation in Indonesia.
The haze started with farmers around Dumai City, Riau Province burned down large areas of forest. As many as 187 "hotspots" were picked up by satellites on 18 June 2013.
Tsk, tsk...
AK, fire, small or big, is a way the land transform itself, with a little help from human as well sometimes.
just like the financial markets where there are small crash and melt down, it is also a way it clenses itself.
thats totally natural.
Hi coconut,
Hahahaha... You should pose that question to school teachers. ;)
It could be natural for human beings to behave in a certain way but what they do impacts the earth in a way that would not have naturally taken place. These forest fires and resultant haze are not the work of nature. So, they are unnatural.
Anyway, I think we are sinking into semantics. So, unless we start lugging out our dictionaries, we can go on forever, naturally. ;p
Indonesians like to protest for almost anything. Surprised that this time around, all of them are very quiet, even for those who live near the haze and suffer most. Probably the matter is not politicized. Even the opposition parties seem to enjoy the haze!?
CS
Hi CS,
The idea that this haze is only a couple of steps away from a biological weapon suddenly came to me. It could make many people quite sick if it should get any worse.
The World Bank on Wednesday warned that severe hardships from global warming could be felt within a generation, with a new study detailing devastating impacts in Africa and Asia.
The report presents "an alarming scenario for the days and years ahead - what we could face in our lifetime," said World Bank President Jim Yong Kim.
"The scientists tell us that if the world warms by two degrees Centigrade (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) - warming which may be reached in 20 to 30 years - that will cause widespread food shortages, unprecedented heat waves, and more intense cyclones," he said in a statement.

PSI hit 290 @9pm
Not sure my lung can take it not:(
This is just a game, there are winners and losers. The land clearing companies are winners, because now the land becomes real estate - the REITS that you guys are investing for dividends. The masks manufacturing companies are winners. And yes, the air-conditioning, the air purifiers companies are winners. Just try not to be a loser. The losers are those who now need to spend money see doctors for asthma.
It is just a capitalism game.
PSI 290!
This is very bad.
The haze in Singapore reached a hazardous level on Wednesday, with the PSI reading going above the 300 level to hit an all-time high of 321 at 10pm.
At 11pm, the three-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) fell back to the "very unhealthy" level at 282.

short the PSI index!
Hi coconut,
What if it gets worse?
I heard that the PSI was actually >400 yesterday! NEA watered it down with a 3 hour average.
Hadi Daryanto attempted to shift some of the blame onto Malaysia and Singapore, saying their palm oil companies that had invested in Indonesia were also responsible.
Indon govt officials are well known for taking bribes. who's to say they didn't turn a blind eye to this fire because they are paid to do that? so if singapore wanna stop this, we got to pay higher.
Hi Ray,
I have had too many encounters with the Indonesian Customs. Too many to count. Blatant corruption is a cultural norm in the public service there.
You call it corruption, they call it passive income, lol.
Hi Tien,
Not exactly passive but without any capital investment required, this is better than passive income. ;p
At 1pm, PSI 371!
O_o
Waiting to hit 500 soon??!!!
Hi yeh,
PSI at 500? I would be hiding in my room with my air purifier and refusing to go to work.
Actually, the government should declare a State of Emergency if the PSI should cross 400!
I remember the last time the PSI became a form of gambling. I wonder anybody is "trading" the PSI this time. Interesting.
I even smell smoke inside my house!!!
Hi yeh,
Close all the windows. On the air con. Get a good air purifier with HEPA filter and leave it on day and night.
