Reader:
I used to buy a Mocha Frap every day at work. About a year ago, after reading your blog, I challenged myself to stop.
For each day I didn't buy a Mocha Frap, I put aside $10.
I am pleased to report I have managed to put aside more than $2,000 so far.
The secret is in your blog.
I got myself a mug and I will earn more than $32,000 with my mug in 16 years!
If AK can do it, I can do better!
-----------------------
I was making a cup of hot Milo in the office pantry like I sometimes do and the sight of my mug suddenly gave me a warm fuzzy feeling.
No, it was not from the hot water or the steam.
Nice?
Got a bit chipped over the years but still nice.
I bought this not long after I started work.
I needed a mug to use for my tea breaks.
It must have been 15 or 16 years ago by now.
How much money have I saved in those years by not buying coffee or tea or Milo from the coffee shop (or from Starbucks) on work days?
Conservatively, $288 x 2 x 16 years?
$9,216?
Not bad.
Gives a new flavour to the phrase "old is gold".
OK, who threw something at me?
Who? Who?

Who?
SMOL,
Wahahahaha! LOL! I fell off my chair... -.-"
Hi AK,
A dollar saved is a dollar earned? :D
I'm throwing my old shoes at you! Should consider initiating a movement like in Taiwan where they are collecting old shoes to throw at their President! LOL~
Oh btw, shouldn't you count how much you have also 'earned' by collecting those old newspapers stacked next to your cup or by reading your company's newspaper instead of subscribing your own? :P
Hi Endrene,
A dollar saved is a dollar earned or so a great man once said. I agree. :D
This photo was taken in the office pantry. The newspapers belong to the company. ;p
Hi AK
Heeeheeehee...
I also have an office mug as old as your mug and yes till today, i am still using it. Though it has coffee stain on it but I can't bear to discard it...u know got feeling one ma....我找到知杯人了@@
Hi Kim,
Aiyoh, got coffee stains? Must use strong detergent to give the mug a thorough scrub! Then, it would be as good as new! :D
Er... or do you mean you have feeling towards the coffee stains? Paiseh. ;p
Actually Coffee like Star buck is really expensive. I did a count some years back and decided no more. Coffee should be just S$1.50 max at today price.
cheers
Hi Cory,
I am glad you agree. :)
How did Starbucks manage to become a part of everyday life for so many people? It is more than just caffeine addiction, I am sure. I salute their marketing team. :)
Actually, if I had based my calculations on the price of coffee at Starbucks, then, I would have "earned" 3x more in the last 16 years. Not just $9,216 but almost $30,000!
Imagine that! O_o
Ak,
Coffee is something that cannot be measured by $$$$. Just can't replicate the coffee shop favour.
Can u stop making us feel excessive?
Hi Garfield,
Some people are born tone deaf. I guess I am the tone deaf equivalent when it comes to coffee and tea. LOL.
Gourmet coffee is wasted on me. I cannot tell the difference. Lucky me. ;p
Hi AK
爱乌及乌吗 @_@
Coffe, tea and Milo are bad for health. Better till is a cup of pure water. Those money save from buying these unhealthy drink could end up in the doctor's pocket. And since it is from your office, u will have tendency to add more sugar and milk which is make it even more unhealthier.
Hi Garfield,
One's perception is one's reality. If one does not feel that one is excessive, then, I guess it is the reality for one. :)
If after reading my blog post, one gets the feeling that one is excessive, then, maybe one is excessive. In this case, one might want to do something. ;)
Like always, I am just talking to myself when I blog. Don't mind me. ;p
Hi Kim,
Very ZEN! I applaud your approach to life!
Love the mug, love the coffee stains and love the bacteria in the stains too. ;p
Hi Unknown,
Actually, I don't add milk and sugar to my tea. As for the 3 in 1coffee, I usually drink it really diluted. Finally, I am known for making Milo kosong in the office. ;p
Most of the time, I am drinking Dasani water in the office. :)
A cup of self brewed coffee each day keeps the frivolous spending habits at bay!
trying very hard to avoid ordering drinks from kopi tiam & the likes of SB. A Nespresso machine at home & those Thai-made 3 in 1 tea are just as good.
For our bubbles fix, we oad up those 1.5L soft drinks during special offers e.g. F&N's s$1.30 a bottle promo. otherwise, it's my water bottle that i m drinking from & happily refills on the move
Hi SnOOpy168,
Make sure your water bottle is BPA free. :)
Nalgene 400ml, Made in USA. Should be lah.... ^_^
No wonder all the ceramic co are going bankrupt. *sigh* paradox of thrift....
Hi seefei,
Oh my. Maybe, I should go and buy a new mug to help the industry stay afloat. -.-"
after reading your mug post, I just realize i still using my mug from 1998.
Hi Robin,
Old is gold. ;)
